Hi,

I’d like to share my situation with you.

I’ve known a girl for about 5 years, and I’ve always been in love with her. For the first 3 years she liked me too, but neither of us ever found the courage to say it. Last year, she got into a relationship with a guy she’s still with now.

In the past few months, though, their relationship has been struggling. A few days ago, she cheated on him with another guy we both know—someone we’ve always kept at a distance because he’s known for hitting on every girl. When I asked her why she chose him, she simply said it was because he’s attractive.

That guy and I both live in northern Italy, while she lives in the south (where we also have roots). We usually see each other every summer for about a month and a half. Since her problems with her boyfriend started, I felt like she was getting closer to me again. When I asked her why she went for that other guy, she told me that she could have been interested in me too, because she thinks I’m better both in personality and looks, but that by now we’ve become “too close as friends.”

The truth is, I’ve known her since I was 13, and now that I’m 18 I can’t seem to like anyone else. I keep thinking I’ll never find another girl like her, and that my life will never feel complete without her. Even though I’ve met other girls who showed me interest, I’ve never been able to truly feel something, because deep down I’m always comparing them to her. I even tried dating, but it just felt wrong, like I was betraying my real feelings.

The only thing that has helped me a little is working out at the gym, which I’ve been doing for almost 2 years. It helps me let off steam, but I still can’t get her out of my mind.

What should I do?

@JXKAndrea What should you do if you love someone? For me, I’d say give it a shot and express your feelings. You’ve been in love with this girl for a while now, maybe she’s just waiting for you.

the only things is that there are already red flags if you still think about going into a relationship with her. But who knows, she might change and not cheat on you…

Right before she got into her relationship, I told her how I felt. But honestly, at the time I wasn’t attractive at all, and personality-wise I was still very immature. After I confessed, she told me she didn’t want a relationship with me. From that day on, the pain got even worse than before, and now it’s become unbearable. I’m scared that if I tell her again how I feel after all these years, it might only make my depression worse.
