Breakup

This is my first time ever doing this, so I’m kind of nervous.

My girlfriend and I broke up just yesterday and she broke up with me because things were just to hard. By that she means my mental health and my past has gotten so bad that it has ultimately affected what was our relationship. She told me she just wants different things and this is what she meant. I have a lot of issues from my childhood and past relationships that has sculpted me into being someone I don’t want to be and this is the first step to me actually talking about these issues and doing something about it. It’s really unfortunate that it had to get to this point for me to actually seek help. I have problems with feeling insecure, being controlling, and just being disrespectful. For some reason I have created this idea in my head that I am ok to say whatever I want if I’m just being honest. I also put a toll on her friendships and our friendships because of my behaviors which I never wanted to do. This girl might not care for me as much as I care for her anymore, but I am really trying and this is the first step. Can someone recommend how I should approach this and what they think my next step should be because I truly don’t have any idea. I just know I’m willing to put in the work and show her in a couple of months that I am that person. Thank you!

take this as an opportunity to do some real introspection and change the way you treat others! she didn’t deserve to be treated that way at all and the only thing you can do now is focus on yourself and improve really. It’ll take some time but seeing as you’ve done well to put your hands up and admit your pitfalls, i’m sure you’ll be able to!
