Conflicted

I was texting this guy (actually my neighbor) for a few months but I had caught feelings long before we were talking. I had this strong feeling in my chest and my gut like "it's him." I thought things were going well. And he was dealing with a lot of things in his life but seemed like he wanted to give it a shot. He actually mentioned if things were "casual or a lifetime." We even went on a date. I enjoyed the time with him, even the silence felt comfortable. I kept waiting for him to take it to the next level. I noticed our texting wasn't the same after that. But after I started to press about where we stood and how it made me feel, suddenly he didn't know what he wanted or needed but he was still interested. He said he needed to get his depression and anxiety under control first. But if you like someone you don't jeopardize that connection even to fix yourself. You work on both things. I know at his age you don't have anything figured out. We haven't spoken since then. I keep trying to make sense of what happened. What changed to cause him to step back. I want to talk to him about everything and ask what's going on but I don't think he'll tell the truth. I don't know if I believe he's trying to become better but I hope he is. Part of me wants to know if I did something so I can work on it for my future. I wanna say let's start over from the beginning and set boundaries and clear, honest intentions but I also feel like I should just leave him alone. If he really wanted me he would've done something to keep me. I'm very torn on what to do.

I have been in a similar situation. I don’t want to sound harsh, but in my situation the anxiety/depression excuse was just that. An excuse. The guy who did that to me didn’t want to clearly end it, because then I’d move on. But he didn’t want to commit to me, because he wasn’t ready. I would swallow the hurt and confusion and move on if I were you. Like you said, if he wanted to be with you he would. Sometimes that’s a hard pill to swallow but just do it. Don’t waste three years like I did. You’re too valuable. Hugs

@littlechaos89,

let him be.

If he wants to reach out at one time he will.

Do not analyze and think about how and what. You simply don't know, so leave it at that.

And yes, people do "jeopardize" connections, to work on the connection with themselves.

If your thoughts go towards him, practice mindfulness. It is simple though powerful to not let your thoughts and emotions kick in and take over.
