Discussion on Moving On from Unrequited Love

Unrequited love can really hurt, especially coming to realize that your love has been unrequited all the time and that there was never a reciprocation. I think equally as important as getting over a break-up, moving on from unrequited love is healthy for our mental health and prevents us from spiraling into hopelessness and a whole host of other negative things.

What are some strategies and ways you have used to get over a unrequited love?

Looking back how has that helped you in the long-term?

Hi Sunny Writing, I can relate to this problem of unrequited love. I am 27 and I've not been in a relationship for about 8 years now. During that period, I've had crushes who did not feel the same way about me

Personally, to handle unrequited love, I try to just accept the situation and the feeling. Accept that you're not feeling well and that you need time to recover from it. Take some time to sleep more than you usually do, listen to heartwarming music, read romance novels, etc. At one time, I even write a letter intended for my crush even though I never sent the letter to her; this is just a way for me to basically express the depth of my emotion for her even if she will never know.

When you feel that you've had enough time to recover, try to get to know other people (even when you don't feel like it). You deserve to be loved.

What a great heart-warming response. It's definitely a legitimate feeling and experience that many people go through not just us and I think recognizing this as a time to reflect on ourselves and be in touch with our emotions is great. I loved your response and I think the way you handle these past experiences are effective and professional. Thanks for responding! You deserve to be loved and I'm sure you'll find the reciprocation one day.
