Long distance relationship

I am currently in a long distance relationship with ny bf of 5 years. We were together for 3.5 years before i went to Europe for studies. Hes in North America. We are having a lot of problems in our relationship. Recently ny bf said he doesnt care what happens to this relationship and being so far away, its hard to hear these things. Hes not having the best year of his life and ive decided to take a break because i have 7 exams in 1 week. We dont know what to do
We had a huge fight because he thinks im never there for him when the reality is i have always tried. I dont think he can handle long distance much but we are happy when we are together. What do i do?
