Need advice
So I had a birthday dinner planned for myself and my family outdoors at a nice restaurant. We are all vaccinated but I still figured outdoor was the way to go. My sister says she feels unsafe to dine because the covid numbers are high in our county. For her birthday we had dinner at a restaurant outdoors and that was fine which was a month ago. But now she’s refusing to go anywhere for mine. I suggested we just do it without her but this upsets my mom so we say we will go to dinner and met my sister for cake afterwards. My sister doesn’t agree with this either and wants to do cake before because we are putting her at risk by seeing her after going to the restaurant. This doesn’t end up working out either and the plan is to just have home cooked dinner indoors. The thing is I’ve been going to shows and some soccer games (I’ve been wearing a mask, but still have been in crowded areas indoors) this past week and that doesn’t seem to concern her, it’s only a problem right before we see her, which honestly she probably wouldn’t get covid from this immediately. It would be from all the other things we are doing!
I guess I’m just having trouble not being angry about having to change my plans. And I don’t know how to let this go. I want to just cancel everything but I know that would upset my mom. It feels like my sister has turned this whole thing around and it’s no longer about what I want? I just wanted to enjoy going to a restaurant. And I feel like I’m going to be in a bad mood when we get together and I’m going to be mad at my sister. Any tips on how to let this go or if I should change something
thank u for sharing! i've been in positions like this before, mainly growing up. i think it would be easier to "let go" of this sort of resentment if there was at least some sort of compromise, but it seems like your sister is trying to take charge of what's supposed to be your special day. i woulf say that if you have a good relationship with your sister, maybe have a talk with her and communicate what you're feeling. maybe you could have the same talk with your mom if you feel like she would be willing to hear you out? hopefully you're able to communicate with them. if this doesn't work out, maybe you can take yourself out on a little birthday date or go eat with a friend to celebrate! i really hope you're able to enjoy your birthday one way or another
