Partners family will not visit our home

Hi, I have been in a relationship for 7 years we have been engaged for 6 years. In that time I feel completely shunned even scorned by his family.

Between my partner and I we have 5 children none are together. I look and treat his son as an equal to my children. I love him dearly and refer to him as my step son. 3 years ago my partners brother got married. I was so excited about the wedding as I love weddings, I get on well with his brother and his wife. Anyway long story short the invitation was sent to my partners mums home ( he stays there 3 times a week as he shares custody of his son and logistically it’s much easier for his son to get to school from there).

Anyhow I kept asking and asking to see the invitation… I had bought a dress to wear to the wedding and was in the process of choosing suits for my sons. Around 3 months before the wedding my partner told me the reason he had not shown me the invitation… it was cause he and I were invited with his son. My children were not invited. My partner had discussed this with his brother and even offered to pay for my children’s food etc however his brother said no, my kids were not allowed to the wedding. On hearing that I declined my invitation. My partner went for the ceremony and food then left.

in all of the 7 years we have been together NONE of his family have ever visited my house. I have invited them on several occasions and am always met with excuses. Once I asked his mum face to face rather than by phone or text and she literally made a noise like a sigh and walked off upstairs. I can only take this refusal as they don’t like me … which is fine not everyone has to like me however my partner insists they do like me.

I am a caring person and go above and beyond to help people. I have helped his mum several times in the past from helping her with I.T issues as she is not very tech savvy to finding her a dog to rescue as she wanted one. My partner has a sister as well as his brother his mum visits both their houses. My partner was married to his sons mum they are now divorced but when they were married his mum visited their home.

it really plays on my mind and every now and again especially if I’ve had a glass of wine it bubbles to the surface. Upon asking him again last night why his family hadn’t/ wouldn’t visit … I just get excuses like ‘ mum sees me all the time ‘ referring to his self. I explained yes she does but she doesn’t see me all the time. I would love for them to visit, I love to cook I would love to have them over …. He just goes silent. I have said to him if they don’t like me just tell me! I’m a big girl I can take it … nothing but silence. I’ve asked him why he doesn’t address this with his family as I would’ve done if I knew it meant that much to him I would explain that to my family and ask them to visit … he has not.

i guess I’m just asking for opinions on the situation please?

what would you all make of this? And why does it continue to bother me so much?

thank you for reading.

It seems like you are being kind of shunned out. Could it he that their family doesn’t connect with you well? Have they always treated you like an outsider since being together with your partner?

I would feel like I am not welcome.

And I would expect a partner to stand by me.
