Relationships and PTSD
Anyone dealing with PTSD in their relationship? I love my fiancé immensely, but his PTSD (from his deployment a year ago) has caused so much stress on our relationship and me. Between the angry outbursts and mood swings I never know which fiancé I’m going to see.
I try to be understanding, but it’s hard to be when he constantly is saying “ I miss it over there”. He has agreed to therapy, but his appointment is several weeks out. He doesn’t abuse me physically, mentally or emotionally. He just doesn’t understand that all of this is hard on me too.
I would love some advice from people who are in similar situations or just someone to chat with about this. No one really wants to listen, because they say it’s “too much for them”.
I didn’t serve or anything. However, I am the one in my relationship that suffers from PTSD and once triggered I do the same thing you mentioned your fiancé does.
People who don’t understand or live can find it to be overwhelming, I think this about all mental health Illnesses though.
If you’re wanting to chat and I can give you some insight of what maybe your fiancé may physically feels to maybe better understand it, I would be more than happy to talk with you.
The one thing I can tell you is the angry outburst and mood swings all stem from one thing. And, that’s fear.
