Contraceptive pills

So me and my boyf has just decided to get intimate and I went to my obgyn to get consultation and contraceptive pills. She said to start taking them on the first day of my period.

this is supposedly around the time I usually get it, I've experienced the pms, bloating and slight cramping already. However I haven't gotten like my full blown period. Last night and this morning I experience very little spotting only, which never happened before. So should I still proceed with taking the pills now or wait a little longer? Hope someone's able to help 😊
