Oral Contraceptives: The Pill
Hey Ladies!
As I browse through our pregnancy/parenting forum I was surprised to see there was little room for contraceptives, so I would like to use this space to explore the various methods of birth control and what our experiences, successes, and losses have been like.
I've recently started the pill and after only three days I have had irritability, crying spells, and depression. Interestingly enough my sex drive also went up.
I want to know:
Are you on the pill?
Did you have side effects? Do they go away? If so, how long before you started experiencing relief?
Thank you!

Hi! Great topic. I'm currently on Seasonale, after 6 years with an IUD. I decided not to continue with the IUD due to some issues, and having had the pill various times in the past, had no reservations about returning to it. However, the first week was MISERABLE with some of the worst hormonal swings I've ever had. I was angry and mean all the time! Luckily that faded and I returned to normal. The other side effect I've had is skin breakouts. I am on my 5th month on it now and things have settled down, although my skin still isn't 100% back to normal. I may ask my doctor what she thinks soon.
I've been on the pill and the mini-pill before and had to stop taking them because I would get knots that would turn into huge bruises on my legs. They would be so painful that even walking slowly hurt. The Dr said it was from my estrogen levels rising. (I also had this unusual symptom during my pregnancies, so it's just how my body is.)
I'm reluctantly back on bc now (mini-pill with a little bit of estrogen) because my hormones needed regulating (lots of crazy symptoms). Hopefully, I'll take it just long enough to get everything back into a good rhythm.
