Always feeling unheard
My wife always says that I should speak up for myself and voice my opinion. I agree that I should be more vocal about my feelings and speak up for myself, but when I do it always leads to an argument. When I state how I feel she questions my feelings and debates with me. I wish she would just hear me out. When she questions my feelings it makes me feel like my feelings aren’t justified. I have signed up for counseling to work on being a better communicator and feeling more confident overall. I really hope things get better soon.
@turquoiseTurtle346,
before you start counseling, stop.
This is a communication issue.
Communication is a two-way street. Your wife should validate your feelings. If she can't, she will have to learn. It is a nasty pattern that ultimately might ruin your marriage. It certainly helped to ruin my marriage (I wanted to be understood/my feelings being validated, my wife would start arguing, thinking along, I got to a point that i simply stopped expressing my feelings).
This is not uncommon but if you want to try to deal with this, you both have to be in it together, whether you wife agrees or not. Time to put your fist on the table.
