Being A Single Lesbian
I'm not sure I should post this here so I'm sorry if it's not allowed. So I recently posted something to the secret thread about being 32 and a closeted lesbian and have never been on a date, ever. I hate to sound so desperate but I want to be in a relationship. It's harder because 1: I'm not straight and 2: I'm still in the closet. I've been trying to meet other women through online dating and the only messages I get are women who live in foreign countries. To top it off I live in a southern, conservative city in the south and I only live here because I'm a caregiver for my grandma making it 10 times harder to meet someone. Where I live is not gay friendly and it's hard to meet other women. I've recently told some lesbian online communities my situation and have been told everything from I need therapy, to my online profile makes women afraid of me (apparently I have told too much about myself and current living situation) to I need to love myself and finally, maybe one day my grandma will die and then I can move. I'm going to sound like a whiny, bratty, baby but I don't understand why I can't find someone, I'd love to even have bi or lesbian friends, as I have none. There are other women who have been in similar situations like mine and are now in relationships and happy and I'm still single and living here, incredibly lonely and feeling like I'll never have a date in my life ever. What exactly is my problem? Am I coming off as too desparate or is it just bad luck?
@Ashley0626 Hey there! I can understand how tough and frustrating this must be for you. It's perfectly fair for you to wish for a life that balances your responsibility to care for your grandma while allowing you to be in a relationship that makes you happy, too! I wonder if there are any LGBT-friendly spaces around where you live? Whether that be cafés, bars, or any kind of group - perhaps you'd find it easier to make friends with someone first, before diving into a relationships like dating websites offer. There's also the possibility that dating apps could be more popular - after a quick search, some that I could find are: Scissr, OkCupid, and Brenda. Each offer a different appeal, so you could have a look or test them out to see which suits you! I hope this helps a bit
@PhoenixAsh
Thanks for your reply. Sadly (after searching a couple times) I can't seem to find any groups or places to join here. I know there are places in the state I live in, it's just not somewhere I can go to right now. Unfortunately I live in an incredibly conservative city where usually in the Sunday editorals there are a few letters about how gay people are ruining America. So it's not great living here. I actually am on OkCupid but I haven't heard about the other sites, I'll check them out.
Thanks again!
