Dating after divorce
I’m recently divorced and two months into my first post-divorce relationship. I’m having a lot of trouble trusting myself because I married someone who was never really a good partner, and I don’t think he was ever truly in love with me. We were together for almost 8 years, but only married for less than 2. We have a daughter, and when she was 9 months old he told me he wasn’t in love with me and wanted a divorce. I’m much happier and better off now, but I’m constantly questioning my own judgment. I didn’t expect to be in a relationship this soon, but my very first boyfriend from the fifth grade asked me out and I went because how could I not! We hit it off and have been seeing each other for about two months now. He’s very intelligent and funny and just fun to be around, but he’s also very masculine and not emotional so it’s kind of hard for me to read him. He is very open and honest if I ever have questions, and he listens to me which is a refreshing change of pace. He’s very calm and rational, which is a stark contrast to my ex, who was very emotionally abusive. I feel like this relationship is good for me right now, but I’m a little bit confused about whether or not that’s a good enough reason to continue dating because it seems as if there’s no real chance of a future. He doesn’t think he wants to get married ever, and he might want a baby but he’s not sure. We’re both 33 so there’s not a whole lot of time left for me in the baby department. I don’t need another one, but I think I would like one more. He currently lives with his 83 year old grandmother and he won’t move out and leave her alone so he says he’ll be there until she dies or has to go to a nursing home. Or if she would agree to live with his parents, he would move out. I completely understand that he loves his grandma and doesn’t want to leave her alone, but to me it seems like we’re never going to progress further than where we are. And I really want a life partner who is all in with me. I don’t know if I could be happy long term with someone I only see a couple times a week. Should I enjoy what we have right now and see where it goes, or should I cut and run now before I get too emotionally invested?
I’m sorry for the suffering you have endured, you are not alone-
we all deserve love- you , included.
one of my favorite authors who has helped me love myself and remember this is:
Louise L Hay.
I recommend her book:
You Can Heal Your Life.

I would say have fun with the relationship you have now. Think deeply about how important another child and another marriage would be for your future. I think it's great that you found a fun relationship after divorce. Not everyone can/does, so try to see the positive in that. Who knows what could happen a year or two down the road. One or both of you might change your views on marriage and children. But if not, then hopefully you'll be in a better place to find another relationship.
Best wishes, Cain
