How do you stop yourself from over thinking?
Sometimes I find myself over thinking aspects of my relationship. It might be over the little changes that occurred that has me questioning what's going on, or it can be over the larger issues.
How do you keep yourself from over thinking it?
Trying to keep yourself busy as much as possible can help,Go out with friends ,read a book, take on a new hobby..
@yellowFig5865 Overthinking is indeed a disorder. Though is it really common and natural amongst most of us. I myself am a victim of overthinking too. I believe the only solution to overthinking is to have a positive mindset. Trust your partner. Whenever negative thoughts come your way, dodge them and try to move as away as possible. Also vent it and talk it out with your partner, their reassurance will definitely help you fight your thoughts :)

When that happens, the best thing that you can do is to talk to your partner about it. Hopefully, by expressing your fears and concerns, he would be able to shed some light about the inaccuracy of your beliefs, and over time, you'll begin to realize how erroneous your overthinking thoughts can be! Of course, you do not want to seek reassurance from your partner constantly. Balance is key. It is important to also reflect on the root of your thoughts. Are you afraid of being abandoned? Are you afraid of trusting? Do your thoughts derive from your insecurities and lack of confidence. Whatever it is, it would be good to work on it. This way, it might help change your perspective on things, and help you gain a positive thought pattern. It's definitely a skill for sure to remind yourself that overthinking does not mean that what you think of are true.
For temporary relief, you can always watch a movie, listen to music and hang out with people. This way, you will not be constantly bombarded by unwanted thoughts as you will be very preoccupied. If that doesn't help, maybe talking to somebody about your concerns will help. I find that talking to a friend is always helpful as they can logically pin-point the flaws in your thinking, and again showing you how inaccurate your thoughts can be. If you feel like you have nobody to turn to though, always feel free to connect with a listener on 7Cups! :) Talking it out can really ease these thoughts!
I overthink too, and I know how tricky it is to break away from such thoughts. But it really can be done if you get down to the root of why you overthink if that makes sense. Good luck!
