I'm strongly in love with someone I've dated before

So for the past two years, I've had a thing for someone and the feelings I have despite not hanging out for six months haven't gone away. I've been telling them about my feelings a lot and have gotten frustrated at times. They've said things ranging from they don't know about the past, anything's possible, to lets just be friends when I ask for a yes or no opinion. When talking to a listener they said this person might be a scared and I agree that this is possible however I'm hoping I didn't already screw things up. Can someone give me advice on this situation?
