Is my relationship toxic?
I have recently started dating a guy I've known for less than a year. We've been dating for about 2 months. Before my current relationship, I was in a mentally and physically absuive relationship. In this previous relationship there was no communication, this guy was very controlling. I wasn't allowed to have friends or talk to anyone. He would threaten to kill himself or drive drunk if I left him and blame me for the consequences, and just things like that. He would push me and hit me. Going back to this new relationship, I am starting to see some of the same aspects of my old relationship minus the physical abuse. We get in small argument that blow up and my new boyfriend is just always demanding an apology from me for everything I say and do. If I try to state how I feel about something he takes it as I'm trying to flip the situation on him & that I don't care about him or his feelings. I feel like I can never do anything right, and he threatens to break up with me over small things. I'm not sure if I should be with him because I don't want this to end up like my last relationship where I'm left depressed and scarred once again. Are these red flags? The defensiveness and demand for apologies? Am I just overthinking it ? The way he always has to be right about everything and that my feelings don't matter? Not sure what to do.
Ask yourself ... what does he bring to the relationship that is positive and uplifting ... other than companionship? Companionship can be resolved with a puppy.
