Where Do I Go From Here?

I broke up with my girlfriend (of a year and a half) 10 days ago and instantly regretted it. I’m in therapy and recently sober. The last straw was seeing her alone for less than one day a month. She’d want me over more often but she’s different when her kids are there, which isn’t a problem, she’s just in “mom mode”. As a new couple who doesn’t live together, I wanted time to see who we were outside of being parents and to continue to get closer romantically. Was I being I reasonable? Now we are talking again but have both decided we can’t go back to the way things were. I’d build up resentment and then drink and lash out. I know I need to work on my own insecurities and sobriety. I miss her and I get the feeling she’s just waiting for me to move on because she seems more okay with the break up. I hate this limbo and just want to focus on my own health and healing but this thing between us is so confusing and frustrating. Do I just move on and pretend I’m not in love with her? Just accept that we aren’t good together and she can’t give me what I want? Or do I deal with the discomfort of being in limbo while working on my own issues and she works on hers until we can be in a better place together? Should it be this complicated?!

@IgobyElle

Those are some tough questions that you're seeking answers for Igoby. As you mentioned, you both have things that you need to work on personally and there's nothing wrong with that. Breakups are never easy on both persons that were involved in the relationships. Both persons may handle the breakup differently as well. You would have to do what makes you happy and has a positive impact on your wellbeing. If that means taking the time to work on yourself, so be it. Or if that means trying to reconnect with her and make things work, go and do that. Wishing you the best with everything.
