Why can't we just get over bad people?
I'm here because I can't seem to move on mentally from a nightmare of an ex-boyfriend. I helped him get out of an overseas prison last year, and tried to make it work after he got out. It soon became clear he wouldn't give up being a criminal, so during a phone fight I texted him to never contact me again. He didn't.
It's been a year and I just found out he's back in jail.
I'm a single, successful woman in her 40s. I make good money, travel anywhere I want. I don't need or want this guy for anything. So, why can't I get past it? It's been all-consuming since the great prison debacle of 2018. Thanks for listening.
@selfimprovement101 I'm sorry that happened. I can't say why you can't let him go but I wouldn't be surprised if it's simply part of everything: you obviously invested a great deal of time, labor and maybe resources to get him out of prison overseas (!) which can't be an easy thing to do, unless you're like super rich or powerful or something.
I don't think you're wrong to feel this way. It just may take some time to work through it. I'm sorry he clearly didn't get the lesson.
