How do you convince someone to avoid committing suicide. Any advice would be much appreciated because I really care about her but she plans on taking her life before her birthday.

I'm sorry, the previous post was accidental! Well firstly, it's great that you are trying to support someone else, and that you are trying to help someone! However, in truth, I recommend you refer her to a professional therapist or counsellor. I understand that you care about her, but you may not have the resources or ability to support her well, and it may not be fair to your own mental health as well. If she is unwilling or unable to visit a professional in person, you could also refer her to the various online websites and hotlines, depending on where she lives. Just do a quick Google search for them! Most importantly though, just make sure that you are there for her, and support her.

In the end, your own mental health is important too! If you need to chat or need some help, you could refer to the resources here, or drop me (or any other listener) a message! Good luck, and stay strong!

@Karis451 the double posting's fine! But I'm not sure if she's seeing any help right now because she's got weird work hours now, so it might not work out anymore. She has mentioned a health profession before though, but hasn't really gone into depth about it save for some small, sparce comments about it. I could certainly try to offer her online help services, especially since 7cups has been pretty helpful for me so far with the chatting. Then again, she isn't someone who's ever appeared confident in sharing her emotional stuff with anyone.

I understand the need to make sure that I'm okay, but this is a situation in which I'm very willing to endure distress and do my best to channel it into something else. She's very important to me and she's very incredible in general, she has so much to live for and I don't want to see that wasted. I'm also selfish and don't want to lose her.

But about offering her personal support, do you have any suggestions on what to do? This is not a situtation that I'm comfortable with messing up because this sort of feels like walking on eggshells. It's pretty bad but if anything will prompt her to not take her life, I'm more than willing to do my best to ensure that she stays alive and okay.
