A Reminder To All

Hi, everyone. I'd just like to post a message here, not as a way of pointing the finger at people or putting the blame onto others. Just to share my story, and a story of countless others that have left this site because something like this happened to them, or others who have gone through something similar.
I'm not usually one to speak up of things that hurt me, simply because I've had my own childhood issues surrounding it. But it's hurt me enough now to be posting this, and that really says something.
A little background. I've been here for 5.5 years now. I've never experienced something like this, for which I consider myself to be extremely lucky in. Recently, there's been an argument in the forums in my thread that was purely aimed at spreading awareness. It turned into arguments. It turned into name-calling. It turned into verbal attacks. It turned into EVERYTHING I didn't want it to be. It turned negative, when the only intention I ever had was to spread awareness. People joined in the fight through their own will, and potentially hurt themselves while doing so.
The post has since been deleted, not by my request but I fully understand the intentions behind it. But i also know deleting posts can be a way to cover up anything that's ever happened, to act like it wasn't there in the first place, to act like people weren't hurt by what happened. I'm deliberately trying to be as vague as I can about what happened and where, whilst also conveying how I felt about it.
I wanted to post this post to say- what can be done about what's happened? I'm not sure. I know more awareness, more clarity and more public knowledge of the consequences of certain actions would be really helpful. Because many people who's posts have been deleted have felt like they were in the wrong- I am now feeling the same way. Deleting a helpful post is a way of saying shh, don't do or say anything that could be interpreted the wrong way by a minority. And that is so wrong. It'd be a good start to not delete my post without asking me about it, but delete the rude comments made and edit the harshly worded comments made by others. It's a pain to do, yes, especially when there were so many comments and fights going on in there. But that goes to show who deserves the consequences- by deleting my post, it says to me that I did something wrong by spreading awareness. That also turns into me not wanting to post in any subcommunities other than my own, because I know I have more control over it than I do of other subcommunities. I wanted to venture out into other subcoms, but now I'm not so sure anymore. And that's scary.

Maybe admin need time to review what has happened. I'm not sure what's going on behind the scenes and what's happened to the people that have caused the arguments to begin with. But I guess that doesn't matter, since the post has since been deleted.
So, I just want to end this by saying. Remember WHY we came onto this site in the first place. Was it because we felt misunderstood in society? Was it because we wanted to make a change? Was it because we were surrounded by like-minded people? Remember who we are. We are all humans. We are all connected by two things- seeking support or giving support, and being vulnerable. We are however, all humans. And words hurt. Words hurt so much more than I realised, until this happened. Words and actions can hurt. Let this be a reminder for all of us to be kind to the people we meet on here. Let this be a reminder to all that we don't know what's going on in a person's life. Let this be a reminder to all to be careful of the words we choose to speak. Let this be a reminder to all that just because we have unresolved issues and trauma, doesn't mean we are allowed to act in rude and aggressive ways. Let this be a reminder to all that we don't need to have experienced a certain issue to want to raise awareness. And finally, let this be a reminder to all that what you say will have influence on others.
What has been said and what has been done has tremendously hurt me. More than I ever anticipated. I've cried over this, for three days. It's temporarily affected my daily life. Remember, whatever you say and do have consequences. Be kind to all, be cautious of what you say and how you say them.

@rebecca947

That situation sounds absolutely horrible. I'm glad it was deleted and I hope it doesn't happen again. Thank you for this!
