Continuing a chat with a member?
Hi there! I just joined yesterday and LOVE this place! :) It's beautiful, reassuring, comforting, and really allows me to brush up on my counseling education skills. I have a question though. I have a member who had to leave for an exam but didn't want our conversation to end. He gave me his username and asked if we could continue talking later. I told him we could, that I had his username, and if he wanted to message me as well, that was fine. My question is, if he doesn't message me first, is it okay to search for them to message them to check in? I worry that a) I won't be able to find him, and b) I will not be able to catch up with him again. Has anyone experienced this? How do I deal with it?
Thank you and love to you all! :)
Great description of 7 Cups! My sentiments exactly.
I have the reverse problem: I can't connect with a Listener whom I really liked because I can't remember their name and our last conversation seems to have been deleted.
Hey there,
If he is a guest, there is no way to search for him unfortunately so he would have to be the one to contact you. If he is a member, you will find him on your "impact" tab and you can click on your conversation to reconnect since you've already chatted!
"Impact tab"?
@CupofChai the Impact tab is listeners-only. I'm honestly not sure about how you could find your awesome listener back!
@Kalypso989About your question (if he doesn't message me first, is it okay to message them to check in?): Yes! You can do that, certainly if he expressed the wish to talk again. You can, like @Shanna said, indeed look in the My Impact-tab, or type a space in the search bar just above the place where all your conversations are. That should make all your recent conversations pop up. If it's a guest, you can't message them again (well, I believe you can message, but they won't receive the message), but he can always find you again and message you! And just a little tip, questions like this can also be asked in the listener-only forum! :)
uh, actually, I'm a talker, so I guess that's why I don't have the tab
still searching for a particular listener...will just try to catch them when I chatted with them earlier (time of day)
can't remember person's exact handle, that's why searching does no good
and btw, if anyone is reading this, has it been reportedthat the UI for posting to these threads (thepop-up text box where I'm typing this right now in Safari) interprets thet<Enter> key as meaning "Oh, you want to go to the top of the box, I'll take you there now" when that key press is supposed to result in a CR/LB (carriage return/line break), taking you to a new paragraph (at the bottom, like pretty much every other input UItext box on the internet) ???
it's the same way on my iphone, and I think even in the iOS app (I'm using Safari on my Mac right now)
