Bullying on 7 Cups - How to Handle It [Guide]

November 5th, 2017

7 Cups, in its mission, is meant to be a supportive, inviting space for all. It is not a place for judgment, harsh criticisms, or any type of negative harassment to occur. Listeners, and members are meant to support one another, not to bring each other down in negative ways.

If someone engages in negative behaviour (saying negative comments to you, putting you down, etc.), you have a number of options. You can block the particular person using the block feature appearing at the top of a chat window (in a 1-1 chat message; it is the 'X' button). After hitting the block function, you will be directed to a text-box, where you have the option of providing details as to why you are blocking a specific individual.

If you are being bothered in a group chat-room environment, you have the option of muting this person by hitting "mute" next to their username. This will disable you from seeing any future comments said by this person. You can also report an individual in a group chat-room, for any negative behaviour, by hitting "report" next to their username. You would specify details in the empty text field box provided.

If you feel the need to take things a step further, you can report the person by emailing community@7cups.com with screenshots.

Let's remember that this is meant to be a supportive, positive space for all. It is a forum to provide others with encouragement and to be an uplifting atmosphere, in lieu of a platform to bully others.

Love this post and yes everyone on cups should aim to keep this space supportive, encouraging, caring, uplifting and inspiring. Its such a shame that for lots of different reasons, some may choose to target others and it can be extremely damaging. Considering what cups aspires to achieve and build, this kind of bullying really needs to be stamped out with a zero tolerance policy. People come here to help others and to seek support and anything that contravenes that, needs to be taken seriously. People have feelings and have their own issues to contend with, without on top, having to deal with the aftermath of other people's actions which set out to cause damage to a persons heart. Lets all try our utmost to keep cups safe for everyone, listeners and members alike and to remember the common aim many of us have. Lets stop the cruelty and bullying that may carry on in the very place, so many give so much too in efforts to make a difference to someones life, even if that difference is just being there for someone. We achieve so much and should be proud of what we do accomplish but we also need to listen to the things that are not working so well, whether it be listeners and members being bullied or something else, and find ways to address these things too, so we can accomplish minimising potential hurts to others. :)
