It depends. Certain rooms need to be unlocked. (for example, some events are held in Depression 2 which needs to be unlocked)

Most of the time, that orange "join a discussion" button does not work, so your best bets are to either check the calendar and/or hop around the rooms for a discussion event. Right now, there's a mindfulness event going on for adults, you just have to select the mindfulness room from the menu and it'll take you there.
