Saving Conversations (for later!)
Many times, I find myself getting valuable advice from Listeners, but after continuing the conversation, I want to look back and reflect on their precious, meaningful words - or sometimes my own. Yet, despite the many great improvements on the website recently, it still seems impossible to have the conversations, or copies of them, saved somewhere safe. The most background I see when going into the chat screen is 6 messages back. Unfortunately, that's very mildly helpful. If anybody knows of how this can be done even as the website is at the moment - or if the Administrators see this - Please! This is so important, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who is frustrated by this concern.
Looking forward to the replies!
Thanks,
N
Noy, From the listener side I too agree it would be nice to have more messages visible at one time. The main reason for the deletion is privacy. The new system allows for the most recent messages (10 or so) to be visible to the listener unless erased using a button that clears the chat window. If you would like to save some of the tips - as listeners should not be giving advice - a listener gives you I would ask their permission for you to copy and paste it. The reason I said you should ask their permission is because as a listener I too talk believing what is said in a chat will not be shared. I may confide in a member something very personal that I do not wish being saved for later. But I am sure if you ask a listener will be more than happy to work with you. Along those lines, a suggestion I have for the 7 Cups admin. I know there is talk of a note pad for a listener to take notes during a chat. Why not a member journal or not epad? it could be a space on their dashboard where they can save their own thoughts or like noy said, they could write down something helpful a listener shared.
Well put!
I know it is better to take down some notes for future use. And I like HelpfulUnicorn' suggestion that you can copy and paste a few things that you really liked.
It would also be good if you can talk to that particular listener for a few minutes everyday. I think, forming a healthy and lasting member-listener relationship helps a lot.
The confidentiality/privacy aspect doesn't make much sense to me... This is just like chatting in private messages anywhere else on the internet - through email, Facebook, etc. - As a Member, if I was concerned about someone reading my messages, I would log out of my 7Cups account, just like on any other website. Point and case.
Also, if the concern for confidentiality is more on the end of the Listener, then the website could save it for the Member but not the Listener. In addition, an option to delete all messages instantly, could be added for the Member on the chat page - maybe on the corner of the screen, for example. That way, the Member could have the choice. Personally, this feature would help me tremendously with processing and remembering the chats I have, msotly for self-reflection - of my mood, thoughts, etc. I don't see what the harm is. 7Cups - please Listen to this!! Thank you!
I also share Noy's desire to save conversations. For the more reflective thinker it's useful to observe the content and flow of conversation. For myself, only partly for what the listener has said but more so for my own realizations through the sharing.
