I have been depressed for 3 years now and its severely affecting my life. I never found out why I was like this but started getting help for over a year now after getting to a critical physical and emotional state. My psychiatrist which I get along really well with diagnosed me with adhd and depression and I have been going to therapy once a week since. I have been taking meds for my adhdbut my doctor Isntprescribing anything else for my depression. I have all the will to recover and im feeling so desperate, my dark thoughts have been with me for so long I wander how long till I have to give in. Why Is nothing getting better for me ? What do I have to do? Will I ever be better?

I really need any advice :(

Thankyou

The most important thing to remember is that this is not your fault. It's not a weakness of yours that is causing you to be sick, and it's not because you're bad or aren't trying hard enough. Some people get cancer; some people get depression. It's a medical condition like any other.

Have you talked to your therapist about how you feel as though you haven't made progress? Have you considering adding medication for depression, at least until you get more stable? Sometimes things don't get better until you find the right form of treatment.

And you will get better. Some day you will be happy and healthy, and you will look back on this time and be so proud of yourself for being so strong and so brave. Just remember that somewhere in the future a better you is waiting.

I suffered from when I was a young boy (8 years old or so) until I was in my late 30's without seeking help.

When I finally did seek help, I was in therapy, started meds, began meditation and a much deeper study of my faith, I journaledevery day?

Yea, I was desperate and tried anything that might help. Something did (eventually) help. I think the meds gave me a foot up, but were not a cure all. I couldn't suggest any of the other things I did unless they sound good to you. I don't believe any of them has the potential to be harmful. (Someone please correct me if you think I'm wrong.)

I guess I'm trying to say is try whatever you can. It's great you are already in therapy. That was a huge step for me.

You next step is going to be easier.

Always remember that there is a way up. There is something positive that will bring you to a better state of mind. About a year and a half ago, my 24 year old brother committed suicide out of nowhere early in the morning when no one was awake and knew nothing of his intentions. We were all devastated, and I became slightly depressed for a while. I went and talked to someone, and slowly became better. So things like this take time, but remember, we are here to talk to you at 7 Cups, and we are always here to help you out with anything.

Depression is a serious health problem. When you have depression for long time, it interferes with daily life and causes pain and major depression. I am happy to learn that you sought professional help. Many people with a depressive illness never seek treatment. I have heard that medications in combination with psychotherapies can effectively contribute to recover. Here is a link that offers good tips to cope with some symptoms of depression. I hope it helps.
