Self-Harm Recovery Daily Check-In: Thursday March 26, 2020
Hello, everyone. I thought now would be a good time to talk about our social circles amidst all that is going on in the world right now. For many people, with or without self-harming behaviours, rely on our social networks to feel a sense of belonging. That is human nature, how we were born into the world.
Now that social distancing is in place, we can try to be more creative and think of different ways to still connect with others despite the physical distancing!

1. How are you today? Anything youd like to share?
2. How have you been connecting with others in this time?
3. Is there any life tip or hack youd like to share?
I hope you all take care of yourself during these unprecedented times. Self-care is of utmost importance.
P.S. We have a creative contest going on! It finishes March 31- everyone's welcome to join Click here for more information and the form.

1. How are you today? Anything youd like to share?
Better than some days!
2. How have you been connecting with others in this time?
I've just been texting my friends
3. Is there any life tip or hack youd like to share?
I just want to say that you don't need to be productive during this time to matter! Sometimes it's a break that we need, and tending to your mental health is important
@24Help1
Heya! It's good to hear that you're good :) the use of the internet and technology has been a huge help for me too in connecting with others. Thank goodness for the rise of technology.
I love your message. It's so true, we can see this forced break as a break from our usual routine, as a break to help us refresh and tend to our health (tends to be the one thing that's put on the back burner often).
Take care! xx
@rebecca947
Have a nice week
@rebecca947
1. How are you today? Anything youd like to share?
I am doing ok. I'm a little frustrated because now my online schools are requiring even more work than I did when I was on campus. Other than that, I'm doing fine.
2. How have you been connecting with others in this time?
I have been sending memes to my friends and have been on social media more.
3. Is there any life tip or hack youd like to share?
When you go to a hospital in the United States, ask for an itemized bill. That way you can see the exact cost of everything on the bill. They ften take stuff off the bill becuase they don't want you to know that they charge $30 for a bandaid.
@PurpleSnail
Glad you've been connected with friends but I'm sorry to hear online school has been rough, I understand that. And thank you for sharing that tip with the hospital bills by the way that's very kind and informative of you. <3
@PurpleSnail
Heya, Snail. Im sorry to hear that work seems to be piling up more than it was previously. I cant imagine it helping much with everything thats already going on. Good to hear that aside from that though, youre feeling alright :)
Yes, technology is amazing in times like these.
Oh wow, thats an awesome tip! I wonder if I could do that in Australia 🤔
Take care xx
1. I am fine today, way better than the last days, I hope the evening won't get bad again.
2. I don't really stay in touch... I have quite a hard time socializing and I don't know how to act via text. Like, how do you know the other person is not lying to you or making fun of you?
3. Just do what makes you feel good!
@navyBlueberry2704
Heya, Blueberry! Glad to hear youre doing better! What changed do you think, and what could you do to continue this way? :)
Thats understandable, because text uses words only. We dont see the facial expressions or tone, and a lot of miscommunication can happen easily. Having a hard time socialising, it sounds like you still have friends? If so, would FaceTime or Skype help? We can talk to them like normal, just via a screen. It wont feel the exact same, but its the best we can do at the moment I feel.
Take care of yourself xx

1. How are you today? Anything youd like to share?
I'm ok-ish. It's... I don't even have a count on how long we have been on lockdown, but stuff is crazy here. Ppl do not take this virus serious, but luckily the goverment does. I wish we would just all be told to stay inside and ride out the wave like that. Would be the best for the country, I think.
I have put up a form for getting a servicedog today, so not everything is all black. I'm glad it isn't bc I would go crazy if it was. I go out for my daily bikerides to keep myself sane, so everything is good I guess. I haven't selfharmed yet, but I know it's just a question of time and when. Mostly bc my anxiety levels is soooo high that I can't even think. I just want this to be over and done with. I don't want ppl to d** :(
2. How have you been connecting with others in this time?
Online exclusively. I don't go out and meet ppl when the virus is roaring like this. I am still in contact with my friends, but as I only talked to them online before this began, everything feels kinda normal. Normal like this, even though life isn't. But at least it feels that way as long as I'm online.
3. Is there any life tip or hack youd like to share?
Work out at home. It helps you keep stuff together, and you can better handle whatever is coming. I handle my depression that way.
@EvilRegalsReadToo
Heya, Regals! Its nice to see you around still :) mmm, it can be frustrating when we feel a certain way but we see others arent. It sounds like the lockdown isnt at the max yet, as people can still be walking around outside the house without issues. Hopefully things settle soon, and maybe the governments advice may change soon. Things are changing so rapidly. Yay for sending in the application form!! And good on you for exercising and keeping healthy.
Anxiety around uncertain times can be very tricky, and self-harm is a coping method weve used to help meet our needs in the past. It sounds like youre not wanting to go back to self-harm? If so, what other activities can help us overcome or deal with our anxiety a bit better? What can we replace the self-harm with? As a general guideline, they say it takes 5 more positive coping skills to overcome the one negative one- in this case self-harm. What activities have you tried in the past that have helped, or what activities are you willing to try?
Its good to have a sense of normality in the most different of times. It can help us quell our anxiety down knowing that theres still some parts of life that arent uncertain. I know at least for me it helps.
Exercise in general is great, and thank you for technology with exercise videos to follow at home! And of course, body weight exercises are so good as well. Thank you for that tip, and I hope youll be following it to help deal with your anxiety in the near future ❤️ take care xx

1. How are you today? Anything youd like to share?
I'm doing okay today. I have been reading a lot recently (yay!) am debating whether or not to purchase Audible, does anyone happen to know if it's good/worth it?
2. How have you been connecting with others in this time?
I've been trying to keep a list of friends that I want to check in with and talk to and try to schedule calls and facetimes with them to keep in touch.
3. Is there any life tip or hack youd like to share?
If you're really struggling with maintaining a stable routine right now, try google calendar! It can be even for the silliest or simplest of things but it helps organize your life a lot :)
Times are rough right now and very stressful with the coronavirus, please stay safe and reach out to talk if needed. <3
@TheAtticusFinch
Heya, Atticus! Nice work with reading a lot! Whats your favourite book youve read so far? Im not too sure about Audible, as I havent tried it before!
I love how you have a schedule and a list, it sounds like something Im interested in doing too. Hmm...
I do love that hack, it sounds a bit like calendar blocking. :) take care of yourself, too xx
@rebecca947
My favorite book? That's such a hard question! Fiction: The entire Harry Potter series... but most likely Order of the Phoenix. Non-fiction: Flow: The Psychology of optimal experience. :) What about you? And yes, I think the term is calendar blocking lol. Take care of yourself too.
@TheAtticusFinch
I've heard of Order of the Phoenix, a few of my friends say that's their favourite novel from the series. I'm not a huge full fiction fan haha I love historical fiction or fiction that feels like real life eg "based on a true story". My favourite author is Jodi Picoult and so far, I love all her books! I've read around 6 of them I think, need to read more of hers. My favourite self-help book is probably Ikigai by Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles... or Girl, Stop Apologising by Rachel Hollis. I haven't read many self-help books though (I've got a looooooot on my bookshelf). Probably will change soon haha
@rebecca947
Oh my gosh! My friend was just reading and recommending me a Jodi Piccoult book the other day! :D That's super awesome. Now that two people have mentioned her, I might look into it! :) And self help books are a jem, I wish I had more of those around me and on my bookshelf.
@TheAtticusFinch
You definitely should, she's so good! Highly recommend The Storyteller if you're into historical fiction (it revolves around the Nazi era). The first book I've ever read from her and I couldn't stop afterwards. Whats your favourite self-help book?
@rebecca947
I am not doing very well reacently and have really been strugling with having much more free time than I usualy have, and all the extra stressors caused by everything going on in the world right now. I am trying to stay positive but not being able to see anyone really makes it much worse.
Unfortunetly when I am stressed I become much worse at comunication... I did challenge myself and skype a friend today which was awesome.
My tip is to snuggle a pet if you have one (my dog is getting me through each day), and google videos of seals running.
@Inkling27
Hello, Inkling. I'm sorry that you're not feeling well emotionally. It's really understandable, I think all of us are having a bit of trouble with everything going on. It's good to hear that you challenge yourself and it turned out to be great! Maybe you could do more of that? Either with the same friend or different people.
Funny, I just listened to a radio show (literally one minute ago) and they talked about making this forced isolation time more of an opportunity than a burden. Because we don't have a choice in being isolated, or feels like a burden. But it doesn't have to be that way by changing our mindset and perspective. If you chose to be isolated for this long, what would you do with your time?
I know personally for me, routine and structure are really important as well. I try to find routines that are the same as they were pre-isolation: waking up at the same time each day, eating breakfast, lunch and dinner at the same time. Structuring your time could be a tip as well. What would you like to do? What have you been putting off because "you didn't have time"? What could we do? ❤️
