Self-Harm Recovery Daily Check-in: Thursday April 9th, 2020
Hello, everyone! I hope you're doing alright with everything that's going on. If you need extra support, please don't be afraid to ask for it, whether it be in the CoVid-19 group room or the forums, or in PMs. <3
Today's topic will be on habits. What are habits? They are things we do routinely without much thought. We've done it so often that it becomes semi-automatic to us. Our body takes over, rather than our mind. A simple example is brushing your teeth every morning and night. We've done it so many times that we do it without having to think about it. Habits can be good or bad.
Bad habits can be difficult to break, as we've become so accustomed to it and our response again can be subconscious. I'll be doing a lengthy post on it soon! I've got it all written down, just need to find the time to post it.

1) How are you today? Is there anything you'd like to share with us?
2) How do you believe you can break a habit? How have you done it in the past?
3) What's your best tip when it comes to reorganisation? (This question is mainly for me if I'm fully honest! Ha!)
Take extra good care of yourself! <3

1) How are you today? Is there anything you'd like to share with us? - Today has gone well so far. I got up less than an hour ago so I could work on my school work. Once I'm done with my school work I might work on knitting my pullover or work on my art.
2) How do you believe you can break a habit? How have you done it in the past? - Breaking a habit is mighty hard, but you just have to take the time to think about what you're doing and work little by little to stop or at least lessen that habit to where you can break it. I haven't done it myself, but I kind of like to think of it like training a pet. When you get a dog, you have to housebreak them, like your parents potty train you. It just takes some time, effort, and thought.
3) What's your best tip when it comes to reorganization? - Start by laying everything out and then figuring out what things you want to be together. After you have that, figure out a place to put it. Depending on what you're reorganizing, it will take a long time and/or a lot of effort. If it's a fridge or freezer, you're gonna want to do it fast and check dates on foods and drinks. If its clothes on a wardrobe or closet or dresser, have something else you can hang them on and try on everything, get rid of what doesn't fit or at least put it in a box that you can put away somewhere. If its a room, start by taking out what you don't want or what you don't really need in that room, save it for a different space or time, or you can throw it out or give it away, all depending on what it is. If its files, I suggest reading through everything and organizing it from there. Personally, I would put them into categories and then separate them by either date or name after that. If its something else that I didn't name and you want a more specific way of doing it, just say what it is. I'm kind of a neat freak so I'm sure I have a way of organizing what you need.
@LogyBear
Heya, Bear! I hope the day continued well for you, and did you manage to get some knitting or art in? Whats a pullover? It sounds like a colloquialism of which I dont think Ive heard used here in Australia!
Being mindful of what youre doing and acknowledging the habit is definitely the first step to breaking out of it. Being patient and keep on chipping away at it for sure is a great method to breaking a habit, thanks for your input!
Good to hear that you acknowledged reorganisation will take lots of time and effort! I think thats something a lot of people omit from their instructions haha I procrastinate from reorganisation (unless its stationery...) because of the overwhelming feeling I get knowing I have to look at it all. For example, clothes in a wardrobe! I know the best way is to take everything off the hangers and trying them on, but thats so overwhelming :o
@rebecca947
Hey all <3 Sending peace and love to wherever you may be in the world right now.
1) How are you today? Is there anything you'd like to share with us? I'm actually kind of stressed out xD I have a lot of stuff that needs to get done for 7 cups and for school and for online classes and for debate and it's all a bit overwhelming. But busy is good for me! I like being busy. Just struggling to find that usual empowerment I feel from it all today, but I'm sure I'll get in a few hours. :)
2) How do you believe you can break a habit? How have you done it in the past?
I think breaking a habit requires a lot of effort and a lot of determination. I have in the past and it's really challenging to do so!! It also takes a lot of support and accountability from others as well.
3) What's your best tip when it comes to reorganization? (This question is mainly for me if I'm fully honest! Ha!)
Ou yes pm me if needed on this one lol. Organization is key! You really need to find your own unique system that works for you and go from there. My best tip is to take time out of your day (but not too much time!) to work on organizing everything so that it all stays intact.
@TheAtticusFinch
Heya, Finch! Good to see you again. I hope you did get the motivation and empowerment to get things done. But even if you didnt, its alright. Sometimes we have down days and it could be a sign telling us to take some rest/take a break. It could be a sign also that something needs to be changed. And remember to prioritise things if you feel too busy and overwhelmed! Put 7 Cups on the back burner if you value your education more.
Accountability is a big one for breaking habits! I dont think its talked about often enough (or maybe I havent seen it enough in the material I read...)
Definitely need an organisation class taught to me by a few people on here, you included! Or maybe you all could do the organisation for me... that sounds like a better plan!
1) How are you today? Is there anything you'd like to share with us?
I'm doing good today. I do have mixed emotions but I've been dealing so far well with them.
2) How do you believe you can break a habit? How have you done it in the past?
I believe that you have to get it through your head that you want to break it. Try and cut out as many triggers as you can. If you can join with someone and have that support. For me then I try and break a habit I go cold turkey. That always works best for me.
3) What's your best tip when it comes to reorganisation?
For me it's just to get started. Then If you're getting rid of stuff, picture it as money that you are tossing away and ask yourself if you would buy it again. It's a great way to save money and declutter.
@Goldcherry2113
Heya, Cherry! Nice to see you here. Im glad to hear that you were doing well, and I hope youre still doing well. Im proud of you for being able to manage your emotions. Its not easy to do.
Thats true, Believe it and youre halfway there, as they say. You have to be 100% determined and belief in yourself. You reminded me that I do know of some people who visualise that theyve done the task already and it helps them. Going cold turkey can work well for some, and Im glad you found that it works for you! For me, its 50-50.
I love that money tip, thank you for that!!! Its a unique tip that I dont think Ive heard anybody ever say. :o why didn't I ever think of that?!
