Defense mechanism

My boyfriend and I had an argument and I used my self harm attempt as a defense mechanism. Saying “ I wish my attempt was successful” it’s never happened before I was in therapy for over a year. I don’t even know why I brought it up. I am hurt I am ashamed I feel a level of immaturity for even saying it. I didn’t think before I spoke. Does anyone have any idea on why? Let me also explain this is an above and beyond healthy relationship and he’s created a very safe environment for me mentally physically and emotionally. I have a very traumatic background front being a child to an adult. How do I approach this sensitive topic with him? I don’t want it happening again. He’s done everything right by me but I feel like a burden due to my trauma. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

@nightmare101

Hello,

I feel you. I understand. He has created the space and time for you to learn all about self-care and self-love and building your self-esteem. He loves you as you should love yourself. You are not a burden! We shouldn't speak about ourselves like this because it hurts our self-worth. You deserve the best and now have the space to learn how, because when we learn to love the person in the mirror, than it is possible for us to truly love somebody else in healthy ways. I am hoping I am giving you good advice, it is what I have also been working on learning. You've got this and so much to feel grateful and blessed about :-)

Blessings, Day
