Need help with SH
Hello, I’m new on this app (or at least back on it again after months) so forgive me if I put things in wrong places but I’m struggling with SH and need advice. I feel the need to do it so I can relieve stress and so that others will care about me. It sounds selfish or attention seeking, I know, but I’ve been needing attention from someone or anyone. I can’t make more friends it’s impossible, my bf is almost always busy which I leave him be cuz he has important things to do, my best friends are busy and desk with their own issues which I still help with, and I don’t want the comfort from my own family.
I don’t want to feel this way anymore, but the issue is that I prefer to see the blood coming out of my wound to feel satisfied. A simple pain or other method won’t work, and I hate that it won’t work. I do this rarely but lately I’ve been too stressed to distract myself with anything. I usually enjoy art, listening to music, watching shows/anime, etc. idk what to do anymore, I love everyone dearly but they can’t help me and I can’t even help myself anymore. I want to stop feeling this way :(

Hey, thank you for trusting me with something this personal and raw. I'm really sorry you're feeling this way—but I also want you to know: you're not alone, and you’re not “selfish” or “attention-seeking” for wanting to feel seen, heard, and cared for.
We all need connection. We all need someone to notice when we’re hurting. That’s human. Not weak. Not dramatic. Not wrong.
💬 Let’s talk about the SH first.
You said something really important:
“I feel the need to do it so I can relieve stress and so that others will care about me.”
That doesn’t make you manipulative—it shows how badly you're starved for support, and how overwhelmed you're feeling. Self-harm can feel like the only release when you’re holding it all in and no one seems to notice. But what it's actually doing is keeping you trapped in that pain. It gives momentary relief, yes—but then the guilt, shame, and deeper pain come rushing back stronger.
And I hear you when you say the visual—seeing blood—is what makes it “work” for you. That’s a very specific form of SH that often relates to wanting your pain to feel visible—not just to others, but to yourself. It’s like proof: “This is real. I'm hurting.”
But your pain is real, even if no one sees it. Even if no blood is drawn.
💡 A few things to try (that don’t pretend it’s easy):
🩹 1. Make the pain visible in safer ways.
If it’s the visual part you crave, try these:
-
Draw red lines with a washable marker or lipstick where you usually self-harm.
-
Snap a rubber band or hold an ice cube in your palm. (It hurts, but it doesn’t leave a scar.)
-
Scribble furiously in red on paper, or tear it apart.
-
Write everything you’re feeling on your skin instead of hurting it.
No, it might not feel “good” right away. But over time, it builds a new reflex. A new outlet.
💌 2. Ask for connection before you reach for harm.
Make a list of people you might reach out to, even if they’re busy. Send a message like:
“Hey, I don’t need advice, but I really need to feel less alone right now. Can we talk for a few minutes?”
Even if you think they won’t respond—you took a moment to say: I matter. I deserve care.
If there's no one to text, message me here. I'm not going anywhere.
🎧 3. Create a “safe playlist” or a “distress box.”
You mentioned music, shows, art… even if they aren’t helping now, keep them close. Sometimes the goal isn’t to feel good—it’s just to feel less alone. Watch a comfort show, even if it’s just in the background. Doodle meaningless shapes. Curl up in a blanket burrito.
🧠 And please hear this:
You are not broken.
You are not a burden.
You’re a human being with a heart that’s aching for love and care, and you’ve been carrying too much with too little help.
If no one around you is safe enough to talk to yet—consider reaching out to a therapist or crisis line, even if just once. You deserve support that isn’t conditional. You deserve to stop suffering alone.
You're not beyond help. You're right here, asking for a way out. And that means there is still hope.
You don’t need to have it all figured out today. You just need to make it through today. I’m here. I care. And I want you to stay.
Let me know how you’re doing, even if it’s messy. Especially if it’s messy. 💛
Hi. I can talk a bit how I got away from it for at least a bit of time. You didn’t mention it in your text so I will make the suggestion. Did you try sports? Cause it can also hurt. Just a simple workout can make your muscles hurt. I hope you will get out of it!

@FunkyFreeFox
I try to sit on my hands to prevent me from doing anything and cry.
I have done that at times too. I hope you also feel better soon <3

Thanks, you too
