last night was really bad for me. my boyfriend wanted to break up with me and I was clean for a year and I relapsed last night. And I feel so guilty especially because right after I did it we started talking and he wanted to maybe get back together. I just feel so disappointed in myself because of what I did.

Hey Lovely, I want to begin by reminding you that you are not alone in this struggle. The urge to self-harm can often feel overwhelming, almost like a dark cloud that obscures everything else. It’s important to recognize that these feelings can be incredibly intense and may lead us to believe that this is a normal way to cope with emotional pain. Many people experience similar urges, and it’s okay to talk about it. Remember that reaching out for support is a brave step, and there are healthier ways to navigate the pain you're feeling. You deserve to find peace and healing.
Experiencing the pain of a breakup or the departure of a significant other can be deeply distressing. This emotional turmoil can manifest in various ways, often leading to overwhelming urges to reach out or dwell on past memories. To navigate these feelings in a healthier manner, it's important to have effective coping mechanisms at your disposal. Here are a few strategies to consider when you notice these urges surfacing:
1. **Journaling**: Writing down your thoughts and feelings can help you process the emotional pain. Documenting your experiences allows you to reflect on what you’ve learned and how you’ve grown.
2. **Physical Activity**: Engaging in exercise, whether it's a brisk walk, yoga, or hitting the gym, can significantly boost your mood and reduce stress. Physical activity releases endorphins, which are natural mood lifters.
3. **Mindfulness and Meditation**: Practicing mindfulness or meditation can help you stay grounded in the present moment, reducing anxiety about the past or future. Even a few minutes of deep breathing can bring clarity and peace.
4. **Connecting with Supportive Friends and Family**: Surrounding yourself with loved ones can provide emotional support and perspective. Sharing your feelings with someone you trust can help alleviate some of the burden.
5. **Exploring New Hobbies**: Distracting yourself with new interests or activities can not only keep your mind occupied but also lead to personal growth and new friendships.
6. **Setting Boundaries**: If reaching out to your ex is a temptation, consider setting firm boundaries for yourself. This could mean unfollowing them on social media or limiting reminders of the relationship.
By incorporating these healthier coping mechanisms, you can create a supportive environment for yourself as you navigate the complexities of heartbreak and healing.\
It's completely normal to feel a wave of guilt after a moment of struggle but remember, you aren't alone in this. Take a deep breath and pause for a moment—think about three important people in your life who care about you. Their presence can remind you of the love and support surrounding you. Many individuals face challenges with self-harm, and acknowledging your feelings is a courageous step. I'm truly proud of you for reaching out and seeking support. You are stronger than you realize, and it's okay to ask for help as you navigate through these tough times, love.
