@maddiedavidson if they are not supportive they might criticize you for that and ruin your mental health even more.. but if you feel they are supportive and usually do show empathy towards you, then you can go with it.

@maddiedavidson

Many time in life we do not know how people will react .... so we avoid it...   We all should try to address things sooner then later.

  Most all situations in my life when I had to tell someone something uncomfortable in my experience it never went as badly as I had imagined.     Of course there are other outcomes but you will not know until you do.

I will tell you MOST parents responds better if included early and not find out years down the road or if harm ends up causing health issues or worse.

@maddiedavidson

I can only say as a parent myself that we often have mistaken thoughts about situations and then when it is OUR family we see that we made judgement  that no longer makes sense.

I have seen people change their minds about many things when it hits close to home or a person they know and love.

As someone who told their parents about doing self harm a few days ago you should. It’s better to tell someone about this than keeping it to yourself. You will feel calm and at least there will be someone to comfort you and that is your own parents. Good luck :)

I think it all depends in how your parents are when my mom found out the first time she got really really mad and it made it worse. But for others their parents find them help and get them support.
