Honey is a natural antibacterial and nourishing so putting it on wounds will heal it. Try let the wound breathe by removing the bandage and keeping it off for a while. Polysporin also helps.
Give yourself the grace to take it easy and one day at a time.
Do skincare. This may sound silly but if your skin, the largest organ on your body, isn't happy, then neither will you be. Could start with wearing sunscreen during the day and a body butter at night.
Challenge the negative thoughts. Seek out tools and cultivate skills. Remember that what you seek is also seeking you. Maybe find a support group, counsellor, something that connects you to what's good. Read good books, do meditation.
The more one can do to love themselves and put themselves first between acts of SH, the more reflection and work they do, the less likely they'll be to fall down that hole again.
And the more one falls down the hole, the more one can learn how to avoid it, if they're willing to do the work and put a little bit of effort and patience into it.
Apps like Fabulous, Headspace, Calm and Finch may be helpful.
Books by the authors Tara Brach, Gabor Mate, Eckhart Tolle, Don Miguel Ruiz and Byron Katie may be helpful.
If you feel like you could go to the local library and ask the librarian to help you, perhaps they could find some literature that could open the door in your mind, shifting you to a more positive and powerful place.
Routines. Eg: Bathing, grooming, dressing, brushing teeth, washing face, flossing, dishes, laundry, eight hours regular sleep a night.
Rituals. Eg: Journaling, helplines, support groups, prayer or spending time in meditation, reflection and nature.
Some go to a recovery center, others do it alone through writing a book of poetry, and yet others still find some path down the varying degrees of middle: learn as much as you can about who you are and what recovery and healing looks like for you. Knowledge is power.
Namaste.
I would like to add on to this wonderful list.
An app that has really helped me is Calm Harm. It's completely free, and has tons of features and options to help you.
Also for wound cleaning:
Definitely properly take care of them, because even if you just wash with soap and water, small ones still can leave a scar.
Most of my experience was cutting, so I will be basing this off that, but it mostly can be applied to other injuries like burns.
I would recommend holding a cloth material over it that wont leave any cloth bits behind and putting pressure on the wound until it stops bleeding. I don't know how to disinfect a fresh wound, but I at least cleaned off with water and dried with similar cloth as before. Do some research on how to disinfect fresh ones, because I do not know.
Place bandages on after it dries and is treated. Change it everyday until the skin has closed the wound. Scarring starts now, and this is the best time to start to message them (look up the techniques).
Also at this time, I would highly recommend putting silicone gel sheets on the fully sealed scars. Once your scars are white, it doesn't work, but depending on the scar that could take a few weeks to years. Pink and purple scars are still healing and it will work the best on. I've tried many things to make my scars less visible, but none of them worked personally for me except silicone sheets. I used ScarAway, and after a week I already saw a a bit of a difference. If you want a really good brand, buy Frida Mom silicone scar patches. They were made for C-sections, so they will definitely work well.
Also remember, scars take a long time to heal. Dont be disappointed if you arent seeing improvement within a few days for your scars, it generally takes months with assisting products. But also, products can only do the best they can to make them less visible, and cannot permanently remove a scar.
I hope my addition will help!
