Barriers To Seeking Help
Hello, everyone! (I need a new introductory phrase…) As you can see from the title, I wanted to talk about the barriers many people face when they want to or are trying to reach out for help. Help can be from friends, family, relatives, pastors, teachers or otherwise. I want to talk about the barriers to seeking help to help increase awareness of the common behaviours and to help others know that they
What are some barriers for you? How can we reduce them?
For me I'm afraid that my friends will feel unnecessary worry, or blame themselves. They can't stop me, so I feel guilty making them worry about something they have no control over. I'm not sure how it can be reduced.
If you could add anything to this post, what would you like to add?
Maybe covering the guilt of having people care in addition to the guilt you mentioned about being shamed (the opposite reaction).
How would you encourage someone struggling to seek help?
I would tell them to take as small steps as they need. To maybe start out somewhere anonymous like 7cups here and work their way until they feel ready to talk with someone in person like a friend or therapist. It's ok to move at a pace they can handle.

Hey, Fungy! Thank you for replying ❤️ its very brave to do so. I understand that fear- its very real. What sometimes helps me is knowing that they worry because they care about us. If they dont worry, itll mean they dont care. For me personally, that makes the guilt subside a tiny bit, just knowing they care. I understand if that doesnt help you ❤️ I wonder if you could speak to them about your fears and guilt, see what they have to say?
That would be a good idea as well. Maybe Ill get someone to cover the topic of guilt. Its a big and broad topic to cover that can be separated into its own post! @TheAtticusFinch- another topic suggestion!
I love that suggestion. Baby steps, one step at a time. Were all on our own schedules, and as long as we move, were growing and progressing and learning. ❤️
