my scars from my previous actions are now starting to fade and it’s becoming really hard not to relapses. I’ve seen people with worse scars then mine and it makes me feel like I haven't done it as good and I need to redo it and do it properly and deeper. It’s a cycle in my head that won’t stop and I can’t control it
Hey,
I read your post and honestly I can relate so much. When I showed someone my scars for the first time, I was told "it's not that bad, most people do it more and in straighter lines". I'd only shown her one arm and it's much worse in other places, but it kinda made me feel as though she was judging me for not fitting a certain criteria that would make the self harm seem like a serious problem. But after talking it through, she meant she was actually relieved that it wasn't so bad, because she hated seeing me like that. Essentially, my point is, regardless of how deep or how wide the cuts are, or how many there are, the fact that you have to resort to harming yourself means that you have issues that you're too scared to deal with. I'm not trying to be hypocritical because I'm in the exact same situation at the moment, but don't let other people's judgment make you feel like you're "not doing it right", because it could make it worse and then it becomes a bigger and more dangerous situation to try and control. If you want someone to talk to or if you just need to vent about it, then please please please feel like you can message me and I'll try and help the best that I can. But know this, everyone's different and you're not in this alone xx
Scars always fade, and people wear them differently. Yours are no less deep or impactful, and they’ll always be there even if they fade.
I remember how tenuous control can feel when you’re still in those cycles, but every moment you don’t relapse is its own victory. Those victories are beautiful.
