How to feel better about scars?
I have a couple of scars from SH and most are in spots that are hidden constantly. However, for the spots that are visible, when I see them I feel like I am being hit with wave after wave of shame and resentment. I also don't like how often I think that other people notice them (when no one does) and are judging me. I know that if they do notice and say something I can just pass it off as a cat scratch or scar from one of my 3 cats, but it just makes me feel awful, like I can never escape what I have done to my body. It honestly makes me feel like SHing again just to serve as a distraction and punish myself for being the way that I am.

Can you put some sort of makeup over them to hide them, so you can walk with confidence? <3
You are loved! I do mild SH too. It's hard sometimes...
@jesusredeemedme2425
I will try makeup. Thank you.
You’re welcome <3
hiya,
i totally get why you might feel shameful about your scars 💖 it's right there on our body as a constant reminder of our past, and even one glance at it can bring us back to the moment we cut. i know just how much of a terrible feeling that can be
maybe it could help to think that, it isn't 'you' the one that cuts. of course, you do decide to take the blade and cut with it yourself, but i'm sure you never decide to voluntarily have those thoughts do you? i'm sure if it were up to you to stop having those urges in your head, you would do so in an instant
please don't beat yourself up for your scars, self harm is such a hard thing to get over. i'm sure you'll get through this, but it will take some time. i hope you can be kind to yourself till then, it's so much more difficult when you're berating yourself each time you slip up 💖
did you happen to have any sh urges today?
take care
@AnOctopus

awh most welcome 💖 we're all here if you need anything, okay?
take care
If you are old enough, I got a tattoo to cover my scars. It helps because I see this thing of beauty or picture with a positive affirmation. It reminds me that the negative can be turned into a positive.
I covered my most visible scars (my wrist) with tattoos. The artwork is a nice reminder that I am stronger than I think.
I still have other scars (a lot of them) covering over places on my body, but I have gotten to the point I do not care if others happen to see them. If someone asks, I usually make a joke like "oh, you know, I got into a fight with a group of cats" or "I fell on a landscape covered with cacti".
But I understand the shame and guilt. I used to feel like that, but I think with age I have grown to not worry as much. There are so many people on this planet: if someone judges me, then let them. There are always going to be people that judge. But there are also always going to be people who understand or don't care enough to judge, because they love me for me.
Sending you much love <3~Cami
