i have cut myself on and off for the last like six months but i always hate saying i self harm because i feel like i’m lying or looking for attention when the cuts heal. i only do it enough to get blood but no deeper and my cuts always heal but i never know if it is actually considered self harm compared to other people. i’ve also put cigarettes out on myself from time to time.

Im going through the same. Its hard to admit it to yourself . I think its called self harm because you harm yourself from time to time even if its not frequent

But would me cutting myself only to get blood and no deeper still be considered self harm since it’s not leaving any scars? Also i’m sorry you’re going through that I hope you are feeling better soon :)

I think if there's blood there are going to be scars, just not as deep and long lasting. I faint when i see blood, so i avoid severe bleeding. And i still got some scars... not much but i got them... i guess you can call it that way . But it doesnt mean you cant do something about it...

@selfconfidentCoconut9933 Yes, cutting is considered to be self harm even if the cuts always heal.

You're right, of course, that self harm covers a great range of things from very mild to very serious, and shallow cuts that only bleed a little are at the very mild end of that range. Even so, experts seem to agree that whatever is causing the feelings that lead you to cut yourself probably needs to be resolved in some way. This often needs professional help, sooner or later.

If you'd ever like to chat about your situation in these last six months, feel free to click on my profile picture and message me.

I feel the same way. I dont cut very often, in fact I only do it when ever the scars heal. I do maybe 2 or 3 cuts on my shoulder that are just deep enough to leave a light scar for a while so that I can look at it when I feel bad. But then I wont cut again until the scars go away. I just feel more comfortable having two or three I can look at every once in a while but I don't cut all over or go really deep

Definitely sh I feel the same way. It’s easy to feel guilty but you shouldn’t. You need help, and if people don’t understand that the to hell with them. Please consider texting 741741 when you want to cut. It really helped me. I’m always here if you want to talk.

@Maggie07 Good idea, but 741741 only works in the US and Canada. 7 Cups is international. For more information, see Crisis Text Line.
