New Urges
With all the empty time from the quarantine I'm having a lot of trouble controlling my urges. I have pretty frequent urges normally, but I'm so busy that it's easy to distract myself or ride out the urge. Now I have nothing but time and it's getting harder every day to find more reasons not to when my brain keeps thinking of reasons and the rest of me just wants to. I don't know what to do. I've tried many coping mechanisms like ice, rubber bands, the butterfly project, etc. I have an app, but it only helps with minor urges. I need a longer term coping mechanism. Does anyone have any ideas?

My urges have gotten a lot stronger as the quarantine goes on too. I've found that very repetitive hobbies can be soothing, like knitting and bracelet making. Knitting hats is actually fun and time consuming! I also enjoy using meditation apps since they force you to zero in on one thing. Cleaning a dirty room with your favorite music on also helps me feel overall better. I like to start building houses of cards around 9:00 (that's when I generally self harm) because it's like an addicting game, but better for you. Sometimes if I'm going about my day and I notice one activity (like card house building) is either very time consuming or soothing I'll try it out when I feel urges. Write out a list of your good activities!
@PorcupineRay i find that drawing or crochiing heps.it takes my mind off of things. i hope this helped.
