@bear228 -My favorite thing about 7cups is their activities and discussions in group chats and my favorite thing to do for my self care is just relax and chat with my close friends becaude they make me feel comfortable and happy. But on the other hand i also like to read books too my favorite one is "The leader who had no title" by Robin Sharma. Also in my opinion coping mechanisms that i can suggest to this community is do mindful exercises, which can help you clear your mind better but of course everyone can have their own ways. For instance, playing with animals, if it was me, i think i'd own a dog because its loyal and sweet could make me feel less lonely or having a trip go some where like Time Square of NYC :))) . What about food?? :)) I prefer ice cream, cabbage and burgers :)

heart My favorite thing about 7Cups is that I don't *have* to come on here regularly, but I *can* if I ever want or need to. It has forums for distractions, and someone to listen if i just need to vent, and people to listen to via the group chats if I just want to watch or support. It's really a versitlie site and I appreciate all the different forms of interaction.

heart My favorite things, currently, for self-care is going for a walk through the down-town parks and working in my journal.

heart My favorite book is... really hard to say! I will say, I love teaching with Sylvia and Aki and, for younger kids, with Separate is Never Equal. They've led to some amazing and powerful discussions in the classroom. I love reading aloud The One and Only Ivan, and I really valued things I learned from Wilderness and the American Mind. I was deeply moved by The Things They Carried and I have re-read Dancing on the Edge 3 times in my life (middle school, high school, and post-college) which has been a kind of fascinating thing to see how my own perspective of the book has changed. Skin Game as moved me powerfully as I find it deeply relatable, and I'll Love You Forever always makes me tear up.

heart One Coping Method I advise is stepping outside. It doesn't have to be a long walk or even the sort of thing where you put on your shoes. But I find that, sometimes, stepping outside, looking up at the sky, and taking a few breaths or walking around my apartment building real quick helps jolt me out of the imediate, must-act urgency feeling and allow me to choose a second coping skill to try.

heart I own two rabbits and they make me smile. I love being with them, watching them, listening to them, photographing them... they are adorable and very calm, mischievious and curious. They provide great comfort and companionship.

I love how 7 Cups of Tea is capable of changing lives of so many people out there. Not only members but listeners too get a lot of benefit through this platform. It is great how inspite of huge differences and so many barriers this platform has connected people all around the globe. I am proud to be a part of 7 Cups.

Having said that there are many books under my favourite's list :D but to name some - Attitude is everything by Jeff Keller, The power of positive thinking by Norman Vincent Peale, Power of our suconscious mind by Dr. Joseph Murphy, Homeopathic Psychology by Phillip M. Bailley etc. And about movies, I love watching horror, suspense thriller.

heart What coping mechanisms would you suggest to this community?

-Confide in someone who is trustworthy

-Identifying the triggering factor as soon as possible

-By finding new coping techniques such as starting to write a journal to express your feelings, Compose a poem or song to express what you feel, Writing down negative feelings & then ripping the paper up, Taking a hot bath or shower, Petting or cuddling with your dog or cat, Massaging your neck, hands, feets etc, Calling a friend to distract your mind whenever you feel the urge to self-harm, Excercise vigorously like running/dancing/jumping rope etc.

-Seeking professional treatment

We as listeners can help such people by dealing with our own feelings, learning about the members problem, Avoiding judging, By offering support and not giving ultimatums, Encouraging communication.

heart If you could own any animal what would it be and why?

It would be a rabbit because I have always wanted to them as a pet. I find them very much cute. They are so loveable. No doubt, all pets are <3 All of them, Most importantly reciprocate the love given to them. They release our stress and make our lives happening & tension free.

heart If you could go anywhere in the world where would it be and why?

Well here goes i guess. TW for mentions of self-harm and suicide.

I feel as though my self-harm recovery is going downhill. I'm turning 15 in February 11, and I'm unaware of exactly how long I have been clean as counting the was driving me insane. As a kid I would do things such as scratching myself or bruising my legs as I told myself i deserved this pain. I wasn't in a good place, honestly im in awful place mentally i don't think I've ever been in a good place. This increased until a bit after my twelfth birthday. I then began to cut and got myself.. Addicted? I'm unsure of the correct wording, forgive me. I was cutting regularly and the only reason I stopped was when i was told i have a serve scoliosis curve and would have to get surgery.

I only stopped so no one would notice. My mum found a razor but i played it off. I never planned to stop forever but after my surgery (march this year) I just didn't do it again. But I feel as though i desperately want to. I mentioned to a friend once that i was recovering and she said she was proud of me for doing well. I felt fake. I feel like im lying when i say im okay, my suicidal thoughts have increased over the 4 years. I only had one full suicide attempt, but after my surgery i almost had a second. It was one of those moments, you know the ones were you almost try, they happen too often.

I just, , I'll end this here, i dont want to get too into it. A friend of mine tells me i may have depression or anxiety, but idk

Hi there @Lucylayton,

I am really sorry to hear you are in an awful place mentally and have some such strong urges of self-harming. I am also really sad that you have made an attempt to end your life and you are considering suicide. I am actually quite concerned about this and I would like to gently remind you how important it is to reach out for help if you find yourself with increasing thoughts of this type. I am saying this with the greatest compassion and understanding, as I have also found myself in that very same dark place. Here you can find a list of crisis resources for teens: https://www.sprc.org/sites/default/files/resource-program/Teens_0.pdf

Other resources can be found here: https://help.7cups.com/hc/en-us/articles/360026242193-Crisis-Resources

I want to say I am proud of you for writing here, sharing your feelings and thoughts, and reaching out for support. This is an incredibly brave step. I wonder if there is anyone you could go to for support? Maybe a counsellor at school? Or would private therapy be an option? You do not deserve pain and you do not deserve to be in such an awful place mentally. Id be happy to talk some more if you feel like it. We could try to understand what is triggering your urges and which healthier coping mechanisms you could resort to instead of self-harming. You are not alone.

@Lucylayton

You are very welcome Lucy. I am here if you need me, and you can always connect with a listener for a private 1:1, anytime. When you made your first attempt, weren't you offered therapy or any other kind of support? Is there a supervisor in your online school you could write to and ask for suggestions? They may have an online psychological support system in place.

* tight and safe hugs for you if that is ok *

My favorite thing about 7 cups is I feel like I can really open up, without any negative reprecussions. Everyone on here is so supportive of one another. It's incredible.

Asking me for my favorite book is like asking a mother who her favorite child is, so I'll give you three. Pink by Lili Wilkinson, I feel such a personal connection to the main character. She doesn't know who she is at the beginning or the end but at the end she's okay with that, and I think that was something I really needed at the time. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvator. I don't even know where to start, the story is so rich and imaginative just, ah, its amazing. And the writing? Oh my goodness, the goddess of poetry herself must have written this. Magnus Chase and the Ship of the Dead by Rick Riordan. First, I love Rick's writing style. Its funny. Its got representation. An amazing story. What more could you want? (Can you tell I'm a book nerd? Have I talked too much?)

Anywho, on to the next question!

I've always wanted a cat and I don't think I'll ever let go of that.

If I could go anywhere right now it would probably be to my friend. It doesn't matter where I would just like to be with her. I want to talk about the things I love, the things I hate. I want to talk about the things that make her happy, the things that make her sad. I want to make sure when I'm with her, she never feels like she doesn't belong. I could probably talk about her all night but I know I've probably already bored you with talking about the books I love.
