site Lost Its Accessibility?
i ve been a user of 7 Cups for a while — both as a member and as a listener. I want to share some honest feedback about how the platform has changed, especially since the introduction of phone verification.
I understand the intent — to reduce spam and create a safer space — the barrier to entry now feels too high, particularly for the very people this platform was meant to help: lonely, anxious, overwhelmed. individuals in that state dont want to hand over personal info, even just a phone number.
back in the day, 7 Cups had a kind of magic — you could just come, use guest account, and speak to someone anonymously. that spontaneity made it feel safe, low-pressure, and human. Now, it feels more procedural, less welcoming, and in some cases, off-putting.
Another thing I’ve noticed (and I know this is anecdotal but still worth saying): since phone verification was introduced, the gender balance seems extremely skewed. As a member, I mostly get paired with male listeners. As a listener, I mostly get male members. It’s not a problem inherently, but it does make me wonder: are women and gender-diverse users dropping off because of the friction? If so, that’s deeply concerning.
hope site can find a way to preserve that spirit, even while improving safety.
Thanks for listening

Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for sharing this. Your message really resonates, and I appreciate the honesty and care behind your words. It takes courage to speak up, especially about changes that impact something as personal and important as mental health support.
You're absolutely right — that sense of spontaneous, anonymous connection was part of what made 7 Cups feel so safe and comforting. I can imagine how disheartening it must feel to watch that shift. And your point about phone verification creating a barrier for vulnerable people is such an important one. When someone is at their lowest, even a small hurdle can feel like a mountain.
I also hear your concern about gender imbalance. It may seem anecdotal, but it matters — sometimes, the little things we notice speak volumes about bigger patterns. I hope the team takes that seriously and looks deeper.

I totally agree with u,
As a member and listener, I would never be comfortable sharing my personal phone number on a site built around anonymity.
Furthermore, I don't think this has helped reduce spam.
I can't post anything and I'm new!
Third time a charm. I'm new and the bot went to sleep right away!
I had to give my number to be verified and not sure if this is a good place to be. Will try to check back.
Have a blessed day

I responded to this thread because it seems pretty relevant as a newbie. I'm hoping even with the change it will be a good place to be! Time will tell...
This is a great place to be! You’ll be loved and accepted here. Stay awhile, play games, have fun, get to know people <3

.So I see your new to here also. I was having a hard time trying to post about being a newbie. Also dealing with health issues but should be ok. Praying 🙏 to blessed Carlos Acutis. New to him too!
Months ago a nice lady told me about 7 cups 🍵 and last week decided to join but had hard time posting and the moment left for me to say much or about too. Anyway trying to give it time without judgment.
Hi 👋 everyone and thanks for your input! I'm trying to figure out how to go to Newbies forum. I have a lot of stress and depression. I've been without my last therapist for a few years and insurance won't cover all of it. I'm an older lady who is for human rights and animal rights.
Have a blessed Sunday 🙏 ☯️😁
