any music majors?
I'm a music ed major and cried during my lesson yesterday 😭 and after i found the closest bathroom and just kept crying for a while.
My voice teacher looks a lot like my mom with a mask on (like they could be related). I have a lot of trauma from my mom, and so criticism from this teacher feels worse than others in the past. Even if she's just asking for small adjustments, I feel like I shouldn't even sing in front of her. I lose my posture, can't get as much air, and have so much tension. I hate it so much and it makes me not want to do lessons so bad.
Hi @pandaprincess9. It is okay to cry, we all do it. Is there a way you could switch voice teachers? Also, do you think it would help if you talked to the teacher one-on-one about it? I had this happen with a teacher once and I asked him to instead of saying "You are doing this wrong. You need to do this, this, and this" he instead said "Very good, you did excellent on this part. This part though, while good could be improved upon by doing this". That way it wasn't full on criticism.

I understand you, I've been writing and editing notes through Scan Score for about a month now and I really like it. Recently I wanted to share this with my music teacher in college and he criticized me very much. I was in a lot of pain but once I shared with an acquaintance who has been involved in music for a long time and he said that he likes my music and I have talent. So don't be sad and I think you will succeed, the main thing is to accept criticism
