7 tips for procrastination!

Hi everyone! I'm extremely sorry for the late post this week, won't happen again!! Throughout my years of being a middle school and highschool student, I've always heard about the struggles and pains of procrastination on assignments and studying. Although procrastination isn't something I struggle with often personally, I know it can extremely difficult when I do struggle with it and I know it affects the studies of many students! I've also noticed that procrastination can really damage our mental health by making us feel lazy and just all-around awful. Here are 7 tips to help stop procrastination!

Useful equation for understanding procrastination!

The Motivation Equation: How to Generate Motivation On-Demand ...

What does this mean?

This means that we want to maximize the expectancy and value of the activity. Expectancy is how much we anticipate ourselves to succeed in the task and get the value or the reward of the thing we're doing. We also want to minimize the impulsiveness (the impulsiveness to get distracted) and the delay (the delay of time to get the task done) of the task itself.

1) Break down the steps of your task

enlightenedBreak down your bigger and scarier tasks to smaller tasks that you can complete

enlightenedThis increases the expectancy of the equation since we are more motivated to complete smaller things

2) Keep the task small

enlightenedFocus on one small task at a time

enlightenedYou can use this along with the pomodoro method. The pomodoro method is 25 minutes of focused work along with 5 minutes of break.

enlightenedFor every 25 minutes of focused work, focus on one task at a time.

3) Set the goal to someone less than what you're capable of.

enlightenedSet the bar low so that you're always exceeding your goals

enlightenedThis increases the expectancy in our equation. We're succeeding in the task and often going beyond it.

4) Make studying fun for yourself!

enlightenedMake sure that the value of your task, or the reward of completing a task, is very high!

enlightenedFor example, you can reward yourself with eating a dessert and watching a tv show after you finish studying for your test for _ hours.

5) Parkinson's law

enlightenedParkinson's law states that work expands as you allow yourself more time to do it.

enlightenedFor example, I could complete my math homework in one hour. But I would take longer to complete my math homework if I allotted myself 2 hours instead.

enlightenedYou can try and limit the amount of time you give yourself a nudge to work quickly and shorten the delay of your equation!

enlightenedBut be sure to not stress yourself out with the time limits you give yourself! There has to be a balance between the two.

6) Change your environment to minimize distractions.

enlightenedThis decreases our distractions and our impulsivity to go into our distractions.

enlightenedDigital distractions are important to minimize! Digital distractions such as notifications and updates from social media can kill our focus and productivity.

7) Understand your personality type

enlightenedUnderstand that not all tips might work for you but it's up to you for you to choose and pick what works for you! There are more productivity tips that exist outside of these 7 but it's important to stick to ones that work and continue finding more that work for you as well.

Thank you for your amazing post heart

1) Do you procrastinate? How does procrastination affect your daily life?

I procrastinate but usually, they are not that important if I procrastinate a thing. So, I wouldn't say it affects me that much.

2) What type of tricks have helped you avoid procrastination and helped you be more productive?

I have a very strong goal. I'm very determinate about that. If I stop I feel guilt. So I really can not procrastinate laugh

@Busranurr

I'm glad procrastination doesn't affect you as much! That's awesome. And that also seems like an awesome way to avoid procrastination too, I might try that out! Guilting myself into productivity is something I rarely do but I'll give it a try haha. Thanks for responding and have a great day!

1) Do you procrastinate? How does procrastination affect your daily life?

I do procrastinate sometimes especially when the stuff is not directly from school and only for extracurricular :) I guess when there's no score assigned to it, it just takes away the motivation for me. I wouldn't say it affects my daily life a lot since I can still balance out my time schedule pretty nicely, it just takes a little longer to finish one task.

2) What type of tricks have helped you avoid procrastination and helped you be more productive?

I usually make a deal with myself :) Usually I would convince myself to finish this necessary task and I'll reward myself with some music or some short vids on Youtube afterward. But often time I would make it harder for myself and push myself to get more and more things done before I can actually get that reward :)

3) What was your favorite memory in school? :)

Ahh school really sounds so surreal and so far away now. I miss spending lunch time and talking with my senior friends. I guess the hardest thing is that they've all graduated and we didn't know about school closure beforehand (they inform it to us while we're on another break). So yeah I didn't have the chance to say goodbye to them properly, in fact I don't really remember what we said on that very last day. I'm still glad they will have the time of their life soon!!

Thank you for the lovely post @TheAtticusFinch ! <3

Herealwaysss I miss you!! I'm glad you still manage to finish the task and that procrastination doesn't affect your daily life too much. I understand and am the same way too sometimes with extracurricular activities! School closure was also informed to us a week before spring break and I relate to what you said about missing senior friends and lunch. I think I just miss seeing and being with people in general! I'm sorry you never got the chance to say goodbye to them properly.. I know that can be difficult considering that these people were in your life for so long and were most likely important people to you. Take care hon!

1) Do you procrastinate? How does procrastination affect your daily life?

Yes, @Hashib22 did procrastinate, but only in the day time and at night, but when it was 12 a.m. @Hashib22 used to start my study and kept doing that till the morning. No, it wasn't affecting daily life at all.

2) What type of tricks have helped you avoid procrastination and helped you be more productive?

@Hashib22 keep a great mindset of motivating himself. @Hashib22 knows marks are important so do anything while day, but start studying from midnight. @Hashib22 studied for marks and obtain grades that's the biggest way to motivate and reduce procrastination.

3) What was your favorite memory in school?

Well everyday in school was fun. Bunk classes and being a babe magnet was some great memories. 😋😋

@Hashib22

Hi there! Yes, most people procrastinate to the early morning hours and I hope Hashib22 was getting enough rest then! For sure, I'm so glad Hashib22 had a great mindset going for them. I find that incredibly crucial to have in order to motivate ourselves more! And I'm glad they realized the importance of marks and good grades and glad to hear school was fun ever day! :D Take care :)

1) Do you procrastinate? How does procrastination affect your daily life?

I usually do procrastinate, but not enough that I don't have time to complete the assignment.

2) What type of tricks have helped you avoid procrastination and helped you be more productive?

Usually creating something like a schedule or a to-do list that lists how much time each task will take helps me keep track of my time and everything I need to do. For motivation, I usually just think of how whatever I'm doing can improve my future self. If the task is mundane (like a chore), music and a romantic imagination always helps.

3) What was your favorite memory in school? :)

My favourite memories in school are probably from my middle school, but there are so many good memories because almost every day had something great in it thanks to my amazing class and teachers.

@TheGoodFairy

Hey there! Thanks for replying :) I'm glad that you don't procrastinate enough to the point where you don't have time to complete assignments. A lil bit of healthy procrastination is always natural. To do lists with time blocks are super helpful! I do the same thing with my calendar. That's an interesting thing that I've never thought of or done, for motivation. I'm interested in trying that out this week! I'm typically a person who critiques myself a ton so I would have a whole list of places to improve lol. Romantic imagination? That leaves me and my brain wandering forever xD but I'm so so glad it works for you <3 Middle school was rough for the majority of the 3 years for me but I have a ton of good solid memories from there as well. Thanks for sharing today. :)
