Combatting Negative Thoughts [pt II]
Hi all!
I posted this on the Depression Support forum before but I thought it was a good idea to post examples of student situations on here. It is a starter, and this will hopefully be a thread where you showcase how you also combat negative thoughts.
***Remember, this is not what we say to members or guests in chats - this is a task for people to undergo themselves to be happy, never tell someone directly to just think positive.
QUOTED FROM MY PREVIOUS WORK:
Cross examining your negative thoughts allows you to interpret a sense of 'mind control'.
YOUR GOAL:
- AVOID NEGATIVE ASSUMPTIONS, AND NEGATIVE FORTUNE TELLING
- FOCUS ON POSITIVE OUTCOMES, AND INSIGHTFUL FORTUNE TELLING
HOW?:
This exercise typically first involves expressing a negative thought. Focusing on combatting it is essential.
Second we write a statement underneath, generally questioning the negative statement.
It acts as a flow chart, and can be structured similar to this:

When thinking about your negative thoughts, it is important to think about these three statements:
1. Is this thought true?
2. Is this thought important?
3. Is this thought helpful?
Note: knowing that you will fail an exam or something similar means that you know you didn't achieve enough marks and you are aware that no matter what you do, you cannot recover because of a threshold. An 'instinctual thought' does not count in this situation.
For some reason my example diagram did not show up in the thread so I have posted an image of it here:

Thanks for sharing :) hopefully people experiencing negative thoughts can use this and challenge their negative thoughts by changing them with positive ones!
Thanks for this. I'm in a desperate sitution and tackling negative thought is quite a necessity for me.
Really a positive post for negative thoughts. Thanks for sharing it here.
