How to calm before a reporting
I have a reporting for an online class tomorrow, this is a group project but i'm a leader so i need to make a good impression for my group mates and my professor, i got easily nervous and i tend to speak fast too to the point that my speech will become incoherent. I actually don't know what to do, i'm kinda wish this will end
Hey there, @weirdgardiumleviosa29, nice to see you again! I was hoping that someone else would be able to help you out here, but given that time is running short until your presentation, I thought I should try to add some words here. Hmm... yes, reporting is never easy, especially if you’re a leader. It can seem awkward that you’re speaking before a whole bunch of people, and your performance may affect the others in your group. But that’s exactly what I think you can use, ironically enough! See, ignoring the awkwardness never goes well. It’s exactly as you said - you begin to rush and trip over your words. Instead, why not address that awkwardness? Verbally recognize that there are people listening to you, and you’ll likely feel more comfortable. What I like to do is welcome everyone in before I do a reporting. Letting everyone know that you recognize them (and that they certainly recognize you) makes you all feel like you’re in the same situation, so some of the anxiety disappears. In many ways, you feel less... alone. Try it out, if you feel comfortable - either recognize your audience before you begin, or recognize your partners as you start. It’ll go a long way, that’s for sure! So, sorry for the long post, but I wanted to help you out if I could. And sorry that my help was a bit late... Still, if there’s one thing that you should know during the reporting, it’s that you’re not alone. You’ve got your partners, the audience, even... us! We’re all here to see you get through this. Lean on us if you need us, take care, and consider dropping an update here afterwards, if you feel comfortable!
Thank you for this, our reporting went well and i think our professor make us relax before the reporting start, told us that we don't need to be scared and nervous he will understand if we stumble our words because of our nervousness.
I’m so glad to hear that!! Congratulations to you and your group! I knew you all could do it :)
