Things NOT to do at school

So, when it comes to class time, you want to be as prepared and able to listen and engage as much as possible (otherwise what is the point of going to class). I dont personally believe in the excuse because the attendance is being marked, you are more likely than not paying to be in class, or your future depends on it, so it is a good idea to get the most out of it.

Here is a list of things that you shouldnt do when going to class (which seems obvious, but some people dont really get it).

Dont show up late
Showing up late is one way to show your teacher that you are not prepared, and that can reflect on your result if participation is marked.

Dont eat

Eating can be distracting to three possible people. Yourself, your classmate(s), and/or your teacher. Now, dont get me wrong, if you havent eaten for a while and you are starving, it might be a better idea to ask the teacher if it wont be too distracting. This is a must, especially for food that is loud.

Dont sleep

Youre coming to class to learn, not to catch up on sleep. This will also affect your grade if you are being marked on participation, and it can severely impact on your health. Try your best to get as much sleep as you can before you come to class.

Dont interrupt

The worst thing a student can do is interrupt the teacher constantly, this distracts everyone else from what is being taught, and can throw off the teacher. There isnt really an excuse for this unless it is an emergency. Best bet is to put your hand up and wait patiently.

Dont chit chat
This is distracting to everyone. Please dont do this.

Dont show up intoxicated

Dont text or use social media

I dont understand how this could be a good idea at all. Class is there to learn, not to browse your social threads. Try your best to stay off of these.

Dont forget to put your phone on silent

This isnt a huge deal, but its unfortunate when that phone rings, and doesnt stop ringing. It is distracting and can get quite annoying.

Dont drink coffee or an energy drink

It might seem ideal to drink something stimulating, but it can cause you to have a huge crash, where you ma subsequently forget EVERYTHING you just learned. Trust me – it is not a good idea (especially if you get anxious/ agitated easily).

Here are some basic tips of what to DO in class:

Show up on time and be prepared

Bring a book and a pen

Try to make a study group

Ask questions

Participate

Thanks for sharing! I think respecting others in the classroom is so important because if you are being disruptive that is unfair for others and in the end, not only you are not learning, but you are also ruining it for others who are there to learn.
