Tips for Better Time Management in School

Hi everyone! Today I want to shed some light on the importance of time management in school. Time management is extremely important because it is required to maintain high quality work in a timely manner. Whether you are in middle school, high school, or college, managing your time wisely is an important factor for productivity. I'll be going to college in the fall, so I know that I cannot be procrastinating anymore wink. I have shared some tips that I discovered to be very helpful.

How to embrace time management - Bellarmine Magazine

1.) Eliminate Distractions. Studies show that cell phones and other electronics distract concentration. Rather than just shutting off your phone or device, put your electronic in another room so you won't be distracted.

2.) Start on assignments early. Don't procrastinate! I once started a 10 page paper at midnight when it's suppose to be due at 9:00 AM that morning. It was not fun.

3.) Pace your assignments. This one is similar to #2. Let's say I have an exam on MacBeth on Friday, and my teacher told us on Monday. There are 28 scenes in the play. What I could do is divide 28 by 4, which gives me 7. This means I will review 7 scenes per day - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thrusday.

4.) Use an agenda or planner. You don't have to splurge to get a decent agenda or planner! Do a to-do list. Jot down everything you need to accomplish by a certain date! Putting everything down on paper is a visual stimulant that can help you keep tabs on all work that are due.

5.) Don't overwhelm yourself. Give yourself enough time to relax! Get some sleep, eat some food, and hang out with friends!

Here's my question for you: what do you do to manage your time better?

I draw my own agenda like a bullet journal, because it motivates me to keep an agenda.

@StanDaMan78 My whole life is on my calendar. I keep deadlines, reminders, tasks all on there. The calendar hold all the important appointments I need to keep and I have a task bar on the side of things I should be working on in my free time.

Sounds like you are very organized! <3 I also keep a calendar, but the thing is I have a habit of losing things, so I have several calendars and I would jot things down in the calendar within my reach, so that gets messy lol.

@StanDaMan78 I'm the same way. I tried keeping a physical calendar for years but it never worked as well as I would have liked. That's why I prefer to use a virtual calendar that can be synced across all my devices. So no matter if I am working on my computer or I only have my phone readily available, I can pull up my schedule, to do list, and reminders.

Hey I do that as well!! As much as I take pride in being a hustler and getting stuff done with my productivity system, I try and make sure I'm taking breaks with my break time and not trying to engage in a bunch of other activities so I don't burn out. <3 Hope you're taking breaks as well. :)

@TheAtticusFinch Definitely! Breaks are sooo important because I do burn out easily. Besides breaks, I like to use a "rewards list". If i come across something that i really like but it's too much for me justify getting myself, I'll add it to the list. And when I go through periods where i have no motivation or there's a major task i have been putting off for a long time, I attach a reward to it... if I clean out the garage, I can buy myself that new purse. If I make it through finals, I want 3 full days (72 hours) where I don't have to do ANYTHING productive. if I stick to my budget for x amount of time, I'll use a portion of the money I saved to buy myself a massage.

Breaks are super important but i think it's also important to find ways to motivate yourself and reward your accomplishments. These little treats keep me on task and make me want to get through my to do list. :)

For procrastination, I really loved this quote my professor shared:

"Procrastination makes easy things hard, hard things harder".

That's honestly so true and its what motivates me to avoid procrastination.
