Hi!

This is my first post to 7cups :)!

I have always been a strong student. However, I had a tough semester, and now, my GPA is not where I’d like it to be :(

I’m pre-med, and obviously I’d like to have super strong grades, and it is putting a lot of stress on me. My parents are super loving and understanding, but sometimes they put pressure on me too 😓

I’ve also been having some depression? Idk if that I was affecting my grades this semester as well?

Any help would be appreciated:)

Helloo,

I went through the same last semester, it happens so don't be too hard on yourself. Depression sure can have an impact on your grades, which is why I think it's important to try and prioritize your health even if it's hard as a pre-med.

One thing that worked for me was explaining the situation to the teachers of my weakest subjects (just saying you had a tough time emotionally, no need to get into details) and asking for extra credit to make up for it. Most reasonable professors should understand and be supportive, especially as you had good grades before and are actively trying to improve them.

Hope this helped!!

Please don’t be hard on yourself you are so smart to have gotten good grades all this time you can do it one tough semester doesn’t define you you will achieve whatever you want and your so amazing don’t be depressed you know every time things get hard remember this is one day will be the past and it wouldn’t worry anymore because everything would have worked out by then it’s okay you can do it 🫂

I feel the same way. I’m also a first-year university student, and I tend to connect my self-worth to my grades. When I get a bad grade, it really affects me and makes me feel sad. Sometimes it feels like the only thing that makes me feel better is getting good grades. I think a lot of it comes from being anxious about the future. I’m always thinking about what’s next, what could go wrong, and whether I’ll be okay. It gets so exhausting constantly worrying about what hasn’t even happened yet.
