How do you talk to people when mother knows all and scolds all

TLDR; mom knows, mom scolds, I'm scared of saying anything to anyone even "I slept at 10pm" bc my mom ay scold me for sleeping too early too late.

I thought I had free speech when I was away from my mom with a week, and so I said whatever I wanted. Of course my cousins told my mom I told them she threw away my food. Also she's scolded me for saying the wrong thing (e.g. she asks which shirt do I want to wear, giving no obvious hints and I pick the wrong thing or I bond with my friends over being caned and my mom scolds me for telling them she scolds me).

I am so scared of saying anything and every time I muster up the courage to say something, she scolds me for it. One time she scolded me for saying nothing about her, and another time she was yelling about people saying nice things about her. I CAN'T TALK TO ANYONE WITHOUT FEAR and it really impacts my social life.

I alrdy hv a plan for the near future, which is focus on grades & finding a job so I can be financially independent of her. Fingers crossed she doesn't see this, and that I get some advice on improvin my social life before I delete this account

Trying to see the things with your eyes, your mom seems to feel like extremely unhappy and insecure, trying to make up for it by obsessively controlling your every breath and move.

Do I understand it clearly that you are both living without your father? Do you have any siblings? Has your mother ever been diagnosed with any mental health issues?

The picture you painted makes me think that you live in a permanent danger from her. As if she was caring too much about her "public relations" image of a perfect mom outside your walls, but at the same time terribly and plainly abusive towards you...

I don't know your exact age (and you don't have to reveal it all), but it seems your moving out as soon as you reach legal age could be the best solution.

Do you have any adult cousins around, like an aunt or a grandma? What they think or tell about the entire situation?

Focusing on your grades and future job seems like a great idea. Even though getting caned seems to be not a very good match (unless just a separate event).

@AmaAtzuva

That sounds really stressfull— your mom seems to be controlling your life, and it seems like you’re being physically hurt on top of her scolding. I’m really sorry that you’re dealing with this.

Aiming for good grades and a secure job/financial situation seems really smart! It might be hard with everything you’re going through, but I believe in you ❤️❤️❤️.

I’m glad you found 7Cups as a safe place to talk, and I hope you’re able to continue talking to us without consequence.
