Starting a new grade
I’m starting a new grade but I get major anxiety just thinking about who’s going to be in my class next year. I don’t have a lot of friends and I’m closed off (I’m honestly known as a quite person at my school) because of this i feel like people just come up to me just to mess with me. My parents have always told me not to pay attention to those types of people but it’s hard when you have no one there to help you or at least know they have your back. Is there any tips that have helped anyone?

Thanks for writing and sharing about your situation.
If this is your first time at 7Cups.com, I encourage you to stick around: there are a lot of supportive people around here; we are from all over the world, so it may take time to respond back to you, but we are here for you. This is what I think is the most important tip for your situation: build a team of support around you (in real life if you can, but if not then you have many people here at 7Cups.com who will gladly help).
My next idea is probably going to feel impossible (this is why you need your team of supporters), try to come up with a list of activities you can do … then go through your list with your supporters. The activity can be something at school, like a club (or a sport), or it can be outside of school like volunteering at a community center or getting a part-time job. Come up with as many ideas as you can (and ask for help from your team).
This will be a good start.
Thank you for writing, and I hope to hear from you soon!

You might be quiet, but you still matter and you have alot to offer. Alot of people will be feeling the same way as you, they will be looking for friends. Don't put too much pressure on yourself and allow yourself to let others into your life and just enjoy yourself 💕💜

That sounds really tough, and it makes sense to feel anxious about it. Being quiet doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you — some people are just more reserved, and that’s completely okay. It’s unfortunate that some people don’t respect boundaries, but that doesn’t reflect on you. Hopefully, with time, you’ll come across people who are more understanding and respectful. You're not the only one feeling this way.
Just don't be afraid you will do good is don't put so much pressure on in head as it will hindare you towards your goal you are strong person and just beformed on your decisions and move positively.

going into a new grade is really hard, especially when you’re going into it feeling isolated 😔😔😔 what helped me in your position was extracurriculars— swim team let me make friends outside of school, clubs let me connect with people in my grade, and stuff like that. i’m wishing you luck!! i’m here to support you— we all are 😊😊😊
Hi milly!
Im super sorry about what you have to deal with. People cam be mean and its usually cause they have their own issues and dont know how to deal with them. But it stinks that people to that.
Ive always been really quite, the majority of the friends ive made came up to me and started talking to me. It takes me a long time to get out of my shell and it takes a long time for me to fully trust people. Im just scared of what they'll think if they see the true me. So I just stay quiet. It can be difficult and it can be really upsetting.
The places where I found the most friends were in clubs and sports or any other gathering of people. Its really easy to bond with people when you share an interest with them. The good thing about clubs and sports is that you will also be routinely meeting with the same people which can help build relationships.
It doesn't always work, and often it takes a very long time to find friends (especially because I usually wait for people to approach me first.) But in my experience, activities like the Gay+Straight alliance club (GSA), choir, and drama club have been filled with super friendly and kind people. My closest friends are friends I made in choir. But you should find a club or somthing similar that centers around your interests!
For me I think these places worked because in all of these clubs/activities you are a team. In GSA we look out for eachother and share our experiences, its a club meant to help you find friends, in drama club and choir you need to work with people to create art! These are very bonding experiences. Also it helps that I feel like extrovertextroverted and confident people often do these activities so they'll approach you instead of you having to approach them.
This is just my experience so it may not apply but- i hope it does and i hope its helps! School can be really really rough but it will get better, i promise!

Hii milly, thank you for opening up about your thoughts and feelings. I can see how stressful you've been feeling not knowing who would be in your class next year. I can feel this uncertainty is making you anxious especially when you feel that there's no one to support you. It must feel quite lonely and constantly on the edge worrying about who could be messing with you. Im proud of you for reaching out and sharing it and it may not happen quickly, but i believe there are people out there who would be seeing the real you and provide a cushion of support.
