Alcohol
I was an alcoholic 2 years ago but since then i haven't touched a single drop but i get extremely thirsty or anxious when someone is drinking near me like i want to rip that glass from them and gulp everything down. I have stopped going out because of this.
wow that sounds like a powerful feeling......and maybe if you keep from going out for awhile to reflect why?
I am very curious to talk with anyone who has overcome an addiction because frankly i have never had those feelings about anything....
What do you feel a drink will do for you if you did rip it out of someones hand ?
Was the feeling after drinking that appealing or was it a short lived moment of who cares that appeals to you?
did you like yourself when drinking? did others like you drinking?
honestly i know a few recovering alcoholics and I liked them better when they were drinking....
you quit drinking and work on not touching again ( probably daily) so you might have had a reason to quit .... does that reason still exist?
all my siblings are addicts in one form or another..... and spouse is a recovering alcoholic .......... I always felt if i could understand addiction from someone else's point of view i could have more empathy towards those in my life who struggle.
I guess it's the feeling i get that if i had just one drop all my anxiety and stress would go away. Yes it happens but only for a short period of time and then everything comes crashing down and i feel horrible. Offcourse after drinking i was a delight i was carefree, laughing, enjoying and people do tell me that carefree part of you is now gone. I liked myself after drinking and others liked me too but gradually i became an entirely different person my whole persona became extremely dark. I was mean, angry or extremely sensitive picking up fights. People close to me became concerned and that's when i realised i had to leave it. I since have never picked any drink in the fear that I would become the same person who was obnoxious and hurtful so yeah the reason exists but i crave it a lot. I guess it will take longer for the cravings to go away.

What you have written seems to be similar to all the others i asked those questions to ...stress and anxiety may be dulled for a short time but NOT gone...
and so often the fun loving carefree person does turn dark....
I hope each struggle you have with staying away from alcohol .. you remember the items that keep you sober... it is very hard to fight that feeling
