I'm leaving my recovery home
I'm almost 5 months sober, I've decided I want to leave the recovery home I'm staying at. I leave on the 27, I'm nervous cause I don't know how it's going to be like. It's hard because alcohol is everywhere, in the past 5 months I've barely left. I was in the hospital for a month then rehab and now this recovery home so I haven't ventured out. I haven't went grocery shopping or past the alcohol isle in the store, there's 6 liquor stores in my town. I know I need to do this for myself, I can't stay in a recovery home forever, but I would be lying of I said I wasn't scared.
I proud of you and I'm sure you can continue without alcohol out of the recovery home. Hugs🤗❤
*I'm proud
5 months is amazing progress. I'm really amazed by what I just read and what you decided to share. You've done incredible work so far. You can do it!
I used to see liquor stores, taverns and beer caves as I drove down the streets. In time they disappear. The appearance of these places is called “salience.” They are stimuli in your environment that draw your attention. What else can have salience for you? Do you have a passion for cars, dogs, bicycling? Set out to see how many red cars you can count on your journey. Next trip, blue. How many dogs do you see? Drive to a dog park and look for dogs as you drive. Put your mind to a task. Build some new neural connections for things you love and appreciate. Go for a walk in nature and look for birds or squirrels. I look for rabbits and gators. My personal theory is that one of the things AA gets right is that focusing on a higher power displaces alcohol as the salient force in one’s life and it gives us a pathway to relieve the guilt we might have about the past, and give us a meaningful way to help others.
You’ve got this Neighborhood dad! Love ShadowWalkers suggestion below to look for other things you love or the beauty in nature to hold your attention in nature. Strength. 💪
